Wearing of Miniature Medals with Evening Dress.

THE following despatch, received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, is published for general information. The forces enumerated in despatch of 14th May referred to below included (a) the New Zealand Volunteer Force (now non-existent), (b) the New Zealand Territorial Force, (c) the New Zealand Contingents raised for service in South Africa.

MY LORD,—With reference to Your Excellency’s Despatch No. 71 of the 14th May, I have the honour to state, for the information of your Prime Minister, that his inquiry was duly referred to the War Office, and I am now in a position to inform you that any medal duly issued under authority from the Crown to any former member of the forces which you enumerate may be worn in miniature on proper occasions with evening dress.
- In accordance with established custom and the Lord Chamberlain’s instructions, medals worn with evening dress (plain clothes) should be in miniature, not in original, irrespective of the military rank held by the owner when the medal was earned.

Consent under Section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909.
IN pursuance of the power conferred upon the Native Minister by subsection (b) of section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909, I, William Herbert Herries, Native Minister, acting on the recommendation of the Waiariki District Maori Land Board, do hereby consent to a sale of Maungarangi B No. 3n Block, containing 30 acres 1 rood 7 perches, situated in the Provincial District of Auckland, subject to the same restrictions and to the same requirements as to confirmation and otherwise as if the land was not subject to Part XVI of the Native Land Act, 1909.

Amending Regulations for the Carriage of Deck Cargo.
WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 26th day of April, 1911, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 36, of the 4th day of May following, regulations were made governing the issue of licenses for the carriage of deck cargo and live-stock on the decks of vessels, and prescribing the fees for such licenses: And whereas it is desirable to amend the said regulations in the manner hereinafter described:
Now, therefore, I, Francis Marion Bates Fisher, Minister of Marine, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 223 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, do hereby revoke the fee of £1 prescribed in the Schedule to the hereinbefore-recited regulations for a license in cases in which a Surveyor or other officer is employed by the Superintendent to inspect the ship before the issue of a license, and do hereby prescribe that a fee of 10s. shall be charged in lieu thereof.

Regulation and Control of Traffic and Navigation on Portions of Waikato and Waipa Rivers.

IT is hereby notified that
HERBERT JAMES SAMPSON,
Chairman of the Ngaruawahia Regatta Association, has, in pursuance of the provisions of subsection (2) of section 6 of the Harbours Amendment Act, 1908, been appointed to regulate and control the traffic and navigation of those portions of the Waikato River which are within a distance of two miles below the junction of the Waipa River with the Waikato River, and within a distance of two miles above the junction of the said rivers, and also of the Waipa River within a distance of two miles from its junction with the Waikato River, in such manner as he may deem necessary for the safety of life and property, on days on which regattas or boat-races are held on such portions of the rivers mentioned.
