by steep fern and light bush covered slopes. There is some flat manuka country on the southern boundary, forming a good homestead-site within three-quarters of a mile of the Railway-station. Section 5 comprises poor open fern and manuka country along northern and southern boundaries, rising to easy light to heavy bush country in the centre, in which there is a fair amount of good land. The forest on both sections varies from light to medium, comprising chiefly tawa, tawhero, rewarewa, rimu, hinau, matai, with a few totara and a light to dense undergrowth of supplejacks, raurekau, pongas, mahoe, ferns, &c. The soil is poor to medium on Section 4 and light on Section 5, on rhyolite formation. The sections are both suitable for sheep-farming, and are well watered. Elevation ranges from 900 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Land in Marlborough Land District for Sale or Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the tenth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Sections range in altitude from 1,070 ft. to 1,150 ft. above sea-level, and consist mostly of flat and undulating open country nearly all ploughable. The soil is generally light, poor to fair in quality, on gravel and shingle formation; all are well watered, except Section 11, on which water could probably be obtained by sinking, and are situated close to Kingston Township, school, railway-station, &c. The south-west boundaries of Sections 9 and 10 and part of the south-west boundary of Section 11 are fenced.

Altitude, from about 1,100 ft. to 2,300 ft. above sea-level, mostly very steep, rocky, high, and broken, covered with tussock, with a little scrub and flax about lower portion; 3 or 4 acres flat and undulating adjoining the road-frontage; well watered. Adjacent to Kingston Township.
KINGSTON TOWNSHIP.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Taranaki Land District for Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the twenty-first day of October, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.
