Situated on the Kohi and Taumata Roads. Access from Whangamomona Railway-station, about fourteen miles and a half distant—by dray-road for twelve miles, balance bridle-road. Nearly all broken pastoral country, some very broken. There is a homestead-site on the north-eastern corner near Kohi Road, and another in the south along Taumata Road. About 50 acres comprise an old burn now in heavy second growth, the balance of the section being covered with a heavy forest of tawa, rimu, rata, tawhero, &c., and a dense undergrowth of kotukutuku, raurekau, hoho, pitau, &c. The soil is of good quality, resting on a papa formation; well watered. Elevation ranges from 400 ft. to 1,460 ft. above sea-level.

Situated at the junction of the Kurapete, Taumata, and Whakaihuwaka Roads. Section 2 is fifteen miles and three-quarters and Section 12 sixteen miles and a half from Whangamomona Railway-station—by dray-road for twelve miles, bridle-road a mile and a half, and balance unformed road. Broken pastoral country, parts being very broken, with a little flat land along the stream in Section 12 and along Whangamomona Road in Section 2. Homestead-sites are obtainable in the south-eastern and north-eastern corners of Section 12 and in the north-west corner of Section 2. About one-third of Section 2 comprises an old burn now in heavy second growth; the balance of the sections is covered with a heavy forest of rimu, tawa, tawhero, rata, kaiwiri, &c., with a few rewarewa, totara, and birch on ridges, and a dense undergrowth of karamu, raurekau, kotukutuku, hoho, pitau, mamaku, tupari, &c. The soil is of good quality, on a papa formation, and the sections are well watered. Elevation ranges from 310 ft. to 1,490 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Tahunaora Road, Section 11 being about thirteen miles and a half and Section 12 about fourteen miles and a half from Whangamomona Railway-station—twelve miles by dray-road and the balance bridle-road. Section 12 is about a mile from the Wangannu River, where there is a landing-stage and cargo-shed. Broken pastoral country, covered with a heavy bush of rimu, tawa, rata, tawhero, &c., with a little birch on ridges, and a dense undergrowth of kotukutuku, karamu, raurekau, ponga, mamaku, pitau, hoho, makomako, tupari, kiekie, mahoe. There is a small clearing on the eastern boundary of Section 12, now covered with manuka, tupari, fern, &c. The soil is of good quality, on a papa formation, and the sections are well watered. Average height between ridges and valleys is: Section 11, 600 ft.; Section 12, 700 ft.

Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the fifteenth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Stratford County.—Ngatimaru Survey District.

Situated on the Makuri Road adjoining the Township of Huiroa. Access is from the Huiroa Railway-station, about a mile and a half distant by metalled dray-road. The section comprises flat swampy land and low easy spurs. The forest is light, comprising a few scattered kahikatea. The soil is of papa formation, and the section is well watered. If drained it would make a good small milking farm.

Ohura County.—Ohura Survey District.

These sections are situated on the Roto Road in a bend of the Ohura River. The access is from Taumarunui, twenty miles; Ongarue, forty miles; or Whangamomona, forty miles; and from Ohura, eleven miles. From Taumarunui the access is by bridle-track. From Ongarue and Ohura the road is formed for wheel traffic to within a few chains of the sections. From Whangamomona the road is formed for wheel traffic to the sections, with the exception of two bridges, which are at present under construction. The sections are exceptionally good ones, comprising flat to slightly undulating country, covered with a heavy forest of rata, rimu, matai, kahikatea, tawa, tawhero, maire, rewarewa, &c., and a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, nettles, karamu, raurekau, pongas, kotukutuku, &c. The soil is of very good quality resting on a papa formation, and the sections are well watered.

Waitomo County.—Tangitu Survey District.

Weighted with £51 15s., valuation for improvements consisting of 23 acres of bush felled and in grass.

The section is situated on the Mokaniti Road. Access from Waimiha Railway-station about thirteen miles distant —by formed dray-road for eight miles, which is being metalled, and by partly formed dray-road and 6 ft. bridle-track for remaining distance. It is possible to get drays to the section, although the road is not completed. The section is a very good one, and comprises heavy kahikatea flats in the front, rising gently to easy spurs towards the back. The flats are inclined to be swampy, but there is a good fall for drainage; the whole section being very suitable for dairying. The greater part of the section is covered with heavy mixed forest of kahikatca, rimu, tawa, pukatea, rata, &c., and a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, mahoe, raurekau, pongas, &c. The soil is of good quality, on a papa formation, and the section is well watered.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

Situated on the Mangapito Road, about a mile and a half from its junction with the Piko Road. Access from Urenui about fifteen miles distant—about thirteen miles being dray-road (eight miles metalled), a mile and a half bridle-road, and balance unformed road. The section comprises rough country, with high ridges and gorgy creeks, covered with a heavy forest of tawa, rata, rimu, towai, and birch on ridges, with a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, &c. The soil is of fair quality, on a papa formation, and the section is well watered.
