Altitude, 300 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, mostly ploughable; covered with fern and manuka. Soil light volcanic loam, with outcrops of rhyolite rock; watered by streams and swamps. Distant sixteen miles from Kawa Railway-station by formed coach-road. There is a post and telephone office within a mile and a store within two miles of section, also a bi-weekly coach service from Kihikihi.

There is a store within two miles and post and telphone office within a mile.

HOKIANGA COUNTY.—WAIPouA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Weighted with £246 for improvements, comprising house, fencing, grassing, and 1 acre bush felled, but not burnt. Altitude, 100 ft. to 350 ft. above sea-level. 20 acres level, 45 acres undulating, balance broken; about 65 acres grass, balance light mixed forest comprising taraire, towai, rata, a few kahikatea, totara, and rimu trees, and a little miro, with light undergrowth of fern, &c. Soil semi-volcanic chocolate loam and clay, on sandstone formation; well watered by stream. Situated eight miles from Kaihu by cart-road.

Opening Lands in Otago Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Tuesday, the seventh day of October, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.

An open section, with a northerly aspect. The soil is of fair quality, though somewhat swampy. A creek cuts the section into two parts. Situated about five miles from Pomahaka Railway-station.

A rough, steep section, suitable only for grazing. Altitude, 1,300 ft. above sea-level. Situated within a mile of Bald Hill Flat Post-office, and about eight miles from the Town of Alexandra.

Clutha County.—Catlin's Survey District.

Weighted with £1 10s., valuation for fencing. A rough bush section, with light soil; broken by a number of deep gullies. The general aspect is south-easterly. The timber is light. Situated about twelve miles from Owaka Railway-station, and about a mile from a school.
