CHINA, EAST COAST.—YANG TSE KIANG ENTRANCE.

NORTH CHANNEL.—LESS WATER REPORTED.—Position: Near 3-fathom patch, situated at a distance of about 5¾ miles south-westward from Shaweishan Island. Three-fathom patch, lat. 31° 23′ N., long. 122° 8¼′ E. Details: Soundings of about 12 ft., when reduced to low water, were obtained in the vicinity given above by Captain Walker, master of the s.s. “Liangchow.” Note: A note “Less water reported (1913),” has been placed on the charts against the 3-fathom patch.

SOUTH-WEST PACIFIC OCEAN.

BANK REPORTED.—Position: Lat. 41° 26′ S., long. 148° 26′ W. Description: A patch of discoloured water, having the appearance of a bank with a depth of about 5 fathoms over it. Note: “P.A.” has been placed against this bank on the charts.

CANADA, VANCOUVER ISLAND.—BARKLEY SOUND.

KELP BAY.—EXISTENCE OF A ROCK.—Position: At a distance of 3¾ cables, 225° (S. 20° W. mag.) from the south extreme of Ellis Islet, and 254° (S. 49° W. mag.), from the north extreme of the islet next south of Ellis Islet. Lat. 48° 51′ 30″ N., long. 125° 7′ 15″ W., on Chart No. 584. Depth: 2¼ fathoms. Note: In consequence of the existence of this rock, the anchor shown on the charts in Kelp Bay has been erased. Variation: 25° E.

UNITED STATES, PACIFIC COAST.—PUGET SOUND.

SEATTLE HARBOUR.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Position: At head of Colman dock where fog-bell is now shown on the chart, at a distance of 19 cables, 78° (N. 54° E. mag.), from the east extreme of Luna Park, Duwamish Head. Lat. 47° 36′ 12″ N., long. 122° 20′ 5″ W., on Chart No. 1947. Abridged description: Lt. alt. occ., W.R. ev. 30 sec., 94 ft. Details: Character—an alternating occulting white and red light every thirty seconds, showing thus, white light 15 secs. eclipse 15 secs., red light 15 secs. eclipse 15 secs.; elevation, 94 ft.; visibility, not stated; order, 6th; power, white light 1,000 candles, red light 400 candles; structure, shown from cupola of tower of Colman Dock. Remarks: This light is privately maintained. Variation: 24° E.

NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—CAROLINE ISLANDS.

PIGELOT OR COQUILLE ISLAND.—AMENDED POSITION, REEF EASTWARD OF.—(1.) Amended position.—Position: At a distance of 7 miles south-westward from position now shown on the charts. Lat. 8° 5½′ N., long. 147° 36¼′ E. (2.) Existence of reef.—Position: At a distance of 12 miles, 103° (S. 80° E. mag.), from new position of Pigelot Island. Lat. 8° 3′ N., long. 147° 48½′ E. Description: An extensive patch of discoloured water on which a sounding of 11 fathoms was obtained; less water possibly exists. Note: This reef has been named “Condor Reef.”

AUSTRALIA, QUEENSLAND.—TORRES STRAIT.

PRINCE OF WALES CHANNEL, IPILI REEF.—BUOY ESTABLISHED.—Position: Northward of Ipili Reef, and at a distance of about half a cable westward from Mecca Reef. Ipili Reef, lat. 10° 32¾′ S., long. 142° 10¼′ E. Description: A black buoy. Remarks: This buoy is established to replace the beacon on Ipili Reef, which has been destroyed. Note: The beacon has been erased from the charts.

CHINA SEA, BANKA STRAIT.—KALIAN PASS.

KARANG HAJI.—ALTERATION IN POSITION OF BUOY.—New position: On northern side of 2-fathom patch (shown on charts as a rock with less than 6 ft. over it), at a distance of 7 cables eastward from former position. Lat. 2° 5′ 3″ S., long. 105° 6′ 40″ E., on Chart No. 3471. Description: A white conical buoy with ball as topmark.

AUSTRALIA, VICTORIA.—PORT PHILLIP.

SOUTH CHANNEL.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN LIGHTS OF CERTAIN LIGHT-BUOYS.—Date of alteration: On or about the 1st May, 1913:—

(1.) Light-buoy No. 10.—Position: At western end of dredged channel. Pile lighthouse, lat. 38° 20′ S., long. 144° 51′ E. Alteration: The fixed white light will be replaced by a group flashing white light showing a group of two flashes every six seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 1·9 secs.; flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 3·5 secs.

(2.) Light-buoy No. 12.—Position: At eastern end of dredged channel. Alteration: The fixed green light will be replaced by a fixed white light.

Remarks.—No further notice will be given.

ALKI POINT.—INTENDED NEW LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL.—Date of establishment: On or about the 1st June, 1913:—

(1.) Light.—Position: At a distance of 50 yards, 353° (N. 31° W. mag.), from the existing light, which will be discontinued. Alki Point, lat. 47° 34½′ N., long. 122° 25¼′ W. Abridged description: Lt. gp. fl. (5), ev. 10 sec., 35 ft. Details: Character—a group flashing light showing a group of five flashes every ten seconds—thus, group of 5 flashes 5 secs., eclipse 5 secs.; elevation, 35 ft.; visibility, not stated; order, 4th; power, 20,000 candles; structure, octagonal tower, with one-story fog-signal building attached.

(2.) Fog-signal.—Description: Reed horn, giving a group of two blasts every thirty seconds—thus, blast 3 secs., silent 6 secs.; blast 3 secs., silent 18 secs.

Remarks.—No further notice will be given.

Variation.—24° E.

QUEENSLAND.

Submarine Cables across Johnstone River.

Notice is hereby given that four (4) beacons are being erected on the banks of the Johnstone River, two on each bank, to mark the position of the submarine cables which are laid across the northern branch of the river immediately above its junction with the southern branch. The beacons will be triangular in shape, and painted white with red vertical stripes. The distance between the two beacons on each bank will be 122 ft., and the cables will lie midway between them.

Masters of vessels navigating the locality are cautioned not to drop their anchors within the area indicated by the beacons.

Notice to Mariners No. 76 of 1913.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—QUEEN STREET WHARF.—REMOVAL OF INNER WESTERN TEE.

THE Auckland Harbour Board report that the inner western tee of the Queen Street Wharf is now being removed, and a temporary white fixed light is placed on the S.W. corner, which light will remain in this position until the tee and the bank have been entirely removed.

THE Harbourmaster at Hokianga reports that from recent soundings taken on a calm day and smooth sea, the channel across the bar shows slight shoaling, especially to the southward on the N.E. line of bearing of flagstaff, where there is at present only 13 ft. at L.W.O.S.T.
