road. Situated at the junction of the Ohura-Mokau and Pukia Roads, about one mile from Rira Post-office, four miles from Kaeaea Post and Telephone Office and school, and one mile from a cream depot. The access is from Te Kuiti, about thirty miles distant, via Piopio and Aria Townships, by a good dray-road. The section comprises easy to flat and swampy country, and is suitable for agriculture or dairying when improved. The forest is light, comprising manuka, scrub, and fern. The soil is of very fair quality, on papa formation, and the section is well watered.

Ohura County.—Ohura Survey District.

Weighted with £219 10s., valuation for improvements consisting of 40 acres of bush felled, £40; 80 acres grassed, £40; 86 chains of fencing, £64 10s.; and 4-roomed house, £75. Situated on Aorangi Road, the homestead-site being about three miles from Aukopae Landing on the Wanganui River. Aukopae Landing is about sixteen miles from Tauramaruni by the Wanganui River. The access is from Tauramaruni about twenty miles distant by the Kururau, Opetea, and Aorangi Roads, which are all formed for horse traffic. There is a post-office at Aukopae and a post and telephone office at Roto, five miles distant. The section comprises flat, easy sloping, and rather steep country, and is adapted to either dairying or grazing. The forest is varied, ranging from fern and manuka to heavy bush comprising rata, rimu, matai, miro, totara, kahikatea, hinau, tawhero, tawa, &c., and a fairly dense undergrowth of supplejacks, raurekau, pongas, mahoe, kotukutuku, and other soft woods and ferns. The soil is of very good quality generally, on papa formation, and the section is well watered. Elevation 600 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

Waitomo County.—Totoro Survey District.

Situated on the Mapara Road. Access from Te Kuiti about fifteen miles and a half distant, by dray-road for fifteen miles and unformed road remaining distance. The land varies from fair to steep and broken country, covered with a light bush of tawa, kahikatea, rimu, rata, hinau, &c., and an undergrowth of scrub, soft woods, &c. Good homestead-sites are obtainable. The soil is of good quality, and the section is well watered.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Ohura County.—Tangitu Survey District.

The section is situated on an access-road within a few chains of the Ohura Road. Access is from Ongarue Railway-station about four miles distant by formed dray-road to within a few chains of the section, the last few chains being surveyed road only. At Ongarue there is a school and post and telegraph office. The land comprises fairly steep slopes and spurs, with a small area of easy country next the road. What forest there is is very mixed, comprising tawa, tawhero, manuka, flax, and fern, and a fairly dense undergrowth of supplejacks, raurekau, pongas, kotukutuku, &c. The soil varies from fair to good quality, with pumice in places, on papa formation. The section is not well watered.

Opening Land in Canterbury Land District for Sale or Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Thursday, the seventeenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

DESCRIPTION OF SECTIONS.

Section 36746.—This section, which has been all milled, has had several fires through it, leaving clumps of green bush and scattered patches of dead standing timber. It has been sown down in cockfoot grass with fog, and is well watered. Elevation varies from about 1,200 ft. to about 2,000 ft. Distant about five miles from the View Hill Post-office—three miles old formed road partially overgrown, balance good metalled road.

Section 36747.—Practically all open country, with patches of green timber, and fallen and dead standing timber. Good soil, carrying good sole of cockfoot. Altitude varies from 1,000 ft. to 2,000 ft. There is a wire subdivisional fence in fair repair. Distant about four miles from the View Hill Post-office—two miles old formed road, balance good metalled road.

Section 36748.—The milling-timber has been cut out. The northern portion is very steep and rocky, but the spurs on the lower part are good. About half the land has green standing timber on it. The balance, through which there has been a fire, has scattered dead timber lying over it. Well watered. Access as in Section 36747.

Section 36749.—Distant about five miles from Cooper’s Creek Post-office, three miles and a half being surveyed road only, the balance formed and metalled road. The land, with the exception of the bush on the northern portion, is practically clear. It has been frequently fired, leaving scattered patches of green standing bush and dead timber. Good soil; cockfoot has been sown. Well watered. Altitude varies from about 1,000 ft. to about 1,800 ft.

Section 36750.—Similar to Section 36749, but about a mile nearer Cooper’s Creek Post-office.

Section 36751.—A fairly clear section; similar to Section 36749 and 36750. Distant two miles and a half from Cooper’s Creek Post-office, a mile of which is by surveyed road only.

Note.—Good homestead-sites are difficult to obtain on the block.

Opening Settlement Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-eighth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.
