CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Pastoral Run in Otago Land District for License.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Dunedin, 21st January, 1913.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral run will be offered for license by public auction, at this office, on Friday, 28th February, 1913, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

RUN No. 98, Waitaki County (Class B): Area, 7,500 acres; term, fourteen years; upset annual rental, £325. Possession will be given on 1st March, 1914.

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
This run adjoins the Kauroo Hill Settlement, access from the nearest railway-station (Maheno) being by road, mostly formed, thirteen miles. Altitude, from 500 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level. Well covered with native grasses, excepting in the gorges of the Kauroo River and Hector's Creek, which are scrubby and rocky, and is divided into three portions by that river and creek, which form almost sheep-proof boundaries. The run is fenced on all sides but the east, the fence being wire-netted.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are opened for selection on renewable lease; and applications will be received at this office on Tuesday, the 11th day of March, 1913, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908.

Section 1, Block X.—Altitude, 800 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level. Over 300 acres ploughable. The remainder, which is broken by bluffs, slopes very steeply towards the Mangatutu Stream, which forms the western boundary. Divided into four paddocks by cross fences. 30 acres has been sown in oats, which are now being eaten off. The remainder is grassed, with the exception of portion of the steep country, which is covered with light bush. With the exception of the Mangatutu Stream, which is difficult of access, there are no permanent streams, but water may possibly be obtained by sinking wells. The section has a light, loamy soil containing pumice. Situated seven miles and three-quarters from Patoka Post-office. Value of fencing included in capital value, £45 14s.

Section 2, Block X.—Altitude, 900 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level. Almost all ploughable. The southern portion is clean and well grassed, portion of the remainder is covered with light fern. Subdivided into several small paddocks, and watered by two small permanent streams. The soil is a light loam containing pumice. Situated six miles and three-quarters from Patoka Post-office. Value of fencing included in capital value, £108 9s. 6d. Improvements not included in the capital value, but which must be paid for in cash, comprise: Cowshed and dip, value £10.

Section 3, Block X.—Altitude, 600 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Easy hilly country, well grassed, and well watered by permanent streams. Portion of the northern end is light, and contains a fair quantity of pumice, but the remainder is a light loamy soil containing a small quantity of pumice. The slopes towards the Mangatutu Stream are steep and broken. Portions of the section are ploughable. Value of fencing included in capital value, £48.

Section 4, Block X.—Altitude, 550 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Mostly undulating country, with a strip of steep broken country sloping towards the Mangatutu Stream. The greater portion of the narrow neck at the southern end is covered with manuka, but the remainder is well grassed, and watered by streams. Parts near the road are ploughable. Light, black, loamy soil containing pumice. Situated six miles and three-quarters from Patoka Post-office. Value of fencing included in capital value, £47 18s.

Section 1, Block XI.—Altitude, 900 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Easy country towards the north and west, but rising fairly steeply towards the south. Intersected by several gorgy streams which are accessible to stock in places. About 100 acres covered with light manuka, remainder in grass, with a few patches of fern. About one-third of section ploughable. The soil is a light loam containing pumice. Situated five miles and a half from Patoka Post-office. Value of fencing included in capital value, £45 6s.

Section 2, Block XI.—Altitude, 850 ft. to 1,250 ft. above sea-level. Homestead block. Easy hilly country; about one-fourth ploughable. Native and exotic grasses. Fern in patches. Some of the slopes towards the Waihau are covered with fern and light manuka. Soil a light marl on papa formation. Well watered by the Waihau and branches. A formed dray-road runs through the property, and as this is the only means of access to most of the sections it will require to be kept open until the legal roads are formed. The homestead paddocks containing approximately 60 acres are well grassed with English grasses. Homestead is situated six miles and a half from Patoka Post-office. Value of fencing included in capital value, £143 18s. Improvements not included in capital value, and which must be paid for separately, comprise: Dwellinghouse of nine rooms and attachments, valued £1,000; dairy, £80; motor-shed, £30; wool-shed and yards, £300: total, £1,410.

Section 3, Block XI.—Altitude, from 700 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to easy hilly country, fairly well watered. About 100 acres in light manuka and fern. Remainder very clean, and well grassed. Soil a marl formation on papa. Situated four and three-quarter miles from Patoka Post-office. Value of fencing included in capital value, £78 4s.

Section 4, Block XI.—Altitude, from 900 ft. to 1,170 ft. above sea-level. Partly hilly and partly undulating country. About 230 acres in front, light land containing pumice, and covered in fern and manuka; remainder of section clean, and well grassed. Well watered by permanent streams. About one-third of the section is ploughable. Situated three miles and three-quarters from Patoka Post-office and twenty-nine miles from Napier. Value of fencing included in capital value, £122.

Section 5, Block XI.—Altitude, 850 ft. to 1,250 ft. above sea-level. Hilly country, fairly clear, and well grassed, but has scattered patches of manuka. Homestead and buildings are at north end of section, and are surrounded by a small plantation of pinus insignis. A few small pieces of ploughable land. Well watered by permanent streams. The greater portion of section is sheltered, and lies well to the sun. The soil is chiefly marl formation on papa. At the north end of the section the soil contains a small quantity of pumice. Value of fencing included in capital value, £79 6s. 6d. Improvements not included in capital value, and which have to be paid for separately, comprise: Old cottage of eight rooms, valued £150; stable and harnessroom, £75; shepherd's whare, £75: total, £300.
