building purposes, or as rent, hire, or consideration for
the use of any room, or building, or land belonging to the
institution, in respect of none of which will subsidy be
allowed. The net proceeds of concerts, lectures, or other
entertainments on behalf of the current expenses of the
library will be regarded as voluntary contributions. A
subsidy will not be given to more than one library in the
same town.

In the division of the vote a nominal addition of £25
will be made to the amount of the income of each library
derived from subscriptions, donations, and rates, and the
vote will be divided according to the amounts thus
augmented; but no library will receive credit for a larger
income than £75—that is, in no case will the augmented
amount on which distribution is based exceed £100. -
The whole of the subsidy must be expended without
delay in the purchase of books for the library. -
Application to share in the distribution must be by
means of a statutory declaration by the Chairman, or
Secretary, or Treasurer of the institution on behalf of
which it is made, and must be accompanied by a statement
of the receipts and expenditure of the institution for the
year ending on the 31st day of December, 1912; and such
declaration must be on the form provided for the purpose,
which form shall be as follows :—

I, [Name], of [Place of abode], [Occupation], do solemnly
and sincerely declare that I am Chairman [or Secretary
or Treasurer] of the [Name of institution]; that during
the year ending on the 31st day of December, 1912, the
receipts of the aforesaid institution for the maintenance
of the library only were as follows: From rates levied by
a local governing body under Part I of the Libraries and
Mechanics’ Institutes Act, 1908, or the Municipal Cor-
porations Act, 1908, pounds shillings and
pence; from the subscriptions of members,
pounds shillings and pence; and
from voluntary contributions other than members’ sub-
scriptions, pounds shillings and
pence; that the library is public in the sense of belong-
ing to the public, and is not under the control of an
association, society, or club whose membership is com-
posed of a section of the community only; that the in-
formation hereinafter furnished by me in the appendix
hereto is correct in every particular; that the abstract
of accounts is a true statement of the receipts and ex-
penditure of the institution for the year herein specified;
that the whole of the subsidy received during the year
was expended in the purchase of books for the library;
[and that by the rules of the library it is open to the public free
of charge].
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously be-
lieving the same to be true, and by virtue of the Justices
of the Peace Act, 1908.

Notice of Resolution recommending Withdrawal of Land from
the Operations of the Kauri-gum Industry Act, 1908, and
its Amendments.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency
the Governor in Council, acting under the powers and
authorities conferred upon him by section 33 of the Kauri-
gum Industry Act, 1908, and section 9 of the Kauri-gum
Industry Amendment Act, 1910, that a resolution has been
passed by the Auckland Land Board certifying that, to the
best of their knowledge and belief, the portion of Towai No. 1
Kauri-gum Reserve described in the Schedule hereto is no
longer required for the purpose of gum-digging, and recom-
mending the Governor to issue an Order in Council declaring
the said area to be no longer subject to the Kauri-gum In-
dustry Act, 1908. Any objection to this proposal must be
sent to His Excellency the Governor within two months from
the date hereof.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Auckland Land District, containing by
admeasurement 23 acres and 2 perches, more or less, being
part of Towai Kauri-gum Reserve No. 1, situated in Block V,
Hukerenui Survey District, and set apart by Order in Council
dated 12th April, 1899, and published in the New Zealand
Gazette No. 32, of 13th April, 1899, page 756. Bounded to-
wards the north-east and south-east by Towai Kauri-gum
Reserve No. 1, 4040 and 1230 links respectively; towards
the west, south, and again towards the west by Sections 15
and 13, Block V, Hukerenui Survey District, 1200, 100, and
3545 links respectively: be all the aforesaid linkages more
or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and
S. 1911/1083, deposited in the Head Office, Department of
Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Land for Settlements
Act, 1908, and its amendments, I hereby notify that
the undermentioned Crown land, being the land known as
the Waitakaruru Settlement, which has been acquired under
the said Acts, is subject to the said Acts as from 6th Sep-
tember, 1910.
SCHEDULE.
WAITAKARURU SETTLEMENT.
ALL that area in the Auckland Land District, containing by
admeasurement 2,087 acres and 13 perches, more or less,
being Section No. 1 and part of Section No. 2, Subdivisions
of Waitakaruru No. 5B Block, situated in Blocks III, IV, VII,
and VIII, Piako Survey District, commencing at a point
240058·6 links south and 274465·5 links east of Mount Eden.
Bounded towards the south-west by Crown land, 6103·4
links; towards the west by Crown land aforesaid, 5536·5
links; towards the north-west by Crown land aforesaid, the
abutment of a public road, and again by Crown land afore-
said, 9647·4 links; towards the north by Waitakaruru No. 5C
Block, 7627·3 links; towards the north-east by Waitakaruru
No. 5A Block, Crown land, 10743·5 links; towards the south-
east by other portion of Section No. 2, Subdivision of Waita-
karuru No. 5B Block, and the abutment of a public road,
17142, 23·5, and 106·6 links, to the place of commencement :
be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is

KAIPARA HARBOUR.—TEMPORARY CHANGE IN CHARACTER OF
LIGHT IN SOUTH BRANCH OF RIVER.

NOTICE is hereby given that the unwatched white occult-
ing light on the beacon off Shelly Beach, in the south
branch of Kaipara River (see Notice No. 84, of July, 1912)
has (until repairs can be effected) been changed to a fixed
white light and fixed red light over the same arcs as before.
A further notice will be issued when repairs are effected.
