Land temporarily reserved for a Public Cemetery in the Town
of Hodgkinson, Southland Land District.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-twenty-first
section of the Land Act, 1908, it is enacted that
the Governor may from time to time, either by general or
particular description, and whether the same has been
surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwith-
standing that the same may be then held under pastoral
license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required
for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned :

Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of
Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily
reserve from sale the land in the Southland Land District
described in the Schedule hereunder written, for a public
cemetery.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Southland Land District, containing by
admeasurement 13 acres and 29-4 perches, more or less, being
Section 34, part of Section 35, and part of Section 76 of the
Town of Hodgkinson. Bounded towards the north-east by
Aparima Street, 2026-4 links; towards the south by Brid-
port Street, 1869-8 links; and towards the north-west, west,
and again towards the north-west by a road, 582-2 links,
727-2 links, and 423-4 links respectively : be all the aforesaid
linkages more or less : as the same is delineated on the plan
marked L. and S. 1697/15, deposited in the Head Office,
Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon
bordered red.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this sixth day of January, one thousand nine hun-
dred and thirteen.

Opening Land in Wellington Land District for Sale or
Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur
William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of
the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide
as follows, that is to say :—

  1. The rural land enumerated in the Schedule hereto is
    hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on
    Wednesday, the twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand
    nine hundred and thirteen, at the price specified in the said
    Schedule, and shall be deemed to be heavy-bush land.

  2. The said land may be purchased for cash, or be selected
    for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease.

  3. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local
    authority from the said land for a period of four years from
    the date from which such land is disposed of, and no local
    authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate
    from such land during such period.

  4. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the
    selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for
    a period of four years shall not be demanded ; provided that
    if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the
    selector disposes of his interest in the land, the rent so con-
    ceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land
    Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the
    incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount
    of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall
    think fit.

Weighted with £100, valuation for improvements consist-
ing of felling, and slab whare.

The access to this section is from Raetihi, which is about
twenty-two miles distant—by a metalled dray-road for about
fourteen miles, and by formed dray-road for remaining dis-
tance. Later on, the access will probably be from Erua Rail-
way-station, which is about nine miles distant. The section
comprises hilly and undulating land, with occasional flats.
Soil is of a light loamy nature, on sandstone and papa for-
mation. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising rimu, matai,
tawa, tawhero, with usual undergrowth. Elevation ranges
from about 1,700 ft. to 2,450 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Lands in Wellington Land District for Sale or
Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur
William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of
the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of
the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one
hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that
the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale
or selection on Wednesday, the nineteenth day of February, one
thousand nine hundred and thirteen ; and also that the lands
mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the
applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupa-
tion with right of purchase, or on renewable lease ; and I do
hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold,
occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto,
and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or
leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act,
1908.

  • Weighted with £162, valuation for improvements consist-
    ing of four-roomed house, garden, and fowl-run.

† Weighted with £90, valuation for improvements consisting
of four-roomed house, garden, and shed.

‡ Weighted with £170, valuation for improvements consist-
ing of five-roomed house, two whares, garden, and fencing.

§ Weighted with £110, valuation for improvements consist-
ing of four-roomed house and garden.

These sections are situated in the North Waimarino Block,
to the west of the Main Trunk Railway, immediately to the
south of Kakahi Township, most of them having a frontage
to the main road, which is constructed for dray traffic.
They comprise flat and easy undulating land. The greater
portion can be ploughed when the logs and stumps are re-
moved. The soil is of a light volcanic nature, resting on
pumice and clay formation, and seems to take grass well.
