Notice to Mariners No. 76 of 1912.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, are published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Spencer Gulf.—Middle Bank Light.

REFERRING to previous notices to mariners, attention is drawn to the fact that this is now an unwatched light, and that consequently the fog-signal (a gong sounding at intervals in foggy weather) has been discontinued.

Approximate position: Lat. 33° 37½′ S., long. 137° 33′ E.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 403 and 2389B.

Kangaroo Island.—Cape Willoughby Light.

Masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that on and after the night of 1st July, 1912, the revolving light at Cape Willoughby will show a flash every 20 seconds instead of every 90 seconds, as at present.

Approximate position: Lat. 35° 51′ S., long. 138° 8′ E.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 25, 2389A, 2759B, and 3045.

South-east Coast.—Rivoli Bay.—Penguin Island Lighthouse.

Masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that during the prevalence of fog or mist a gong will be sounded at the Penguin Island Lighthouse for a period of thirty (30) seconds in duration and at intervals of five (5) minutes.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 1014 and 1062, and Plan No. 1007.

Notice to Mariners No. 77 of 1912.

Karama Harbour.—Special Signals for Vessels taking the Bar.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 10th July, 1912.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after 1st August, 1912, the following single-flag signals will be allotted to vessels trading to Karama Harbour, to indicate when they may leave or come in and take the bar, &c., viz. :—

A ... for “Echo.”
F ... for “Defender.”
M ... for “Mangapapa.”
W ... for “Wairau.”

The single-flag signals at present in use will not be discontinued, but would be shown from the other yard-arm: thus, A on one yard-arm and C on the other would mean “‘Echo’ take the bar.” B by itself would mean that all vessels may go out.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA.—NORTH-WEST COAST.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Bedout Island light, lat. 19°35 S., long. 119°6 E., has been relighted.

Description of light, as follows: Unattended, white, flashing every 10 seconds—thus, flash 2 secs., eclipse 8 secs.; height of focal plane, 66 ft.; visible fourteen miles in clear weather.

Charts affected.—No. 1055; Bedout Island to Cape Cuvier. No. 1048; Buccaneer Archipelago to Bedout.

Notice to Mariners No. 80 of 1912.

BLUFF HARBOUR.—NEW FLAGSTAFF AT STIRLING POINT.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 12th July, 1912.

THE Bluff Harbour Board have notified that a new flagstaff has been erected at Stirling Point, with which signals may be exchanged by International Code, and from which signals may be shown. This signal-station will only be used when the signal-station on Bluff Hill is obscured.

The station is connected by telephone with the Postal and Telegraph Office and with the Harbour Staff, and at night signals by Morse Code may be exchanged with the watchman in the light-tower. The light-tower is now lit by electric light, and the light is visible for six miles.
