THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Lone Tree Point Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 180 candle-power every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—on the northern side of the peninsula making off from the northern side of Elrington Island.
Probable approx. position : Lat. 59° 58′ 35″ N., long. 148° 12′ W.
Point Elrington Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 430 candle-power every 5 seconds—thus, flash 0·5 second, eclipsed 4·5 seconds—on the western end of Elrington Island.
Approximate position of Point Elrington : Latitude 59° 56′ N., longitude 148° 15′ W.
Channel Island Light.—The characteristic of Channel Island light will be changed from fixed white to flashing white every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds. The new light will be an acetylene light of about 180 candle-power.
Approx. position : Lat. 60° 36′ 38″ N., long. 145° 48′ 40″ W.
RESURRECTION BAY.—LIGHTS TO BE ESTABLISHED.—During the month of May, 1912, the following lights will be established in Resurrection Bay, Alaska :—
Barwell Island Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 180 candle-power every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—on the southern side of the island.
Approx. position : Lat. 59° 51′ 20″ N., long. 149° 17′ 15″ W.
Hive Island Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 180 candle-power every 3 seconds—thus, flash, 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—on the eastern side of the island.
Approx. position : Lat. 59° 52′ 50″ N., long. 149° 22′ 15″ W.
Further notice will be given.
GULF OF ALASKA.—LIGHTS TO BE ESTABLISHED.—During the month of May, 1912, the following lights will be established on the south-east coast of Alaska :—
Cape Spencer Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 430 candle-power every 5 seconds—thus, flash 0·5 second, eclipsed 4·5 seconds—on a small islet off the cape.
Approximate position of Cape Spencer : Latitude 58° 12′ N., longitude 136° 40′ W.
Ocean Cape Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 430 candle-power every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds.
Approximate position of Ocean Cape : Latitude 59° 32′ 20″ N., longitude 139° 51′ 40″ W.
Cape St. Elias Light.—A flashing white acetylene light of about 430 candle-power every 10 seconds—thus, flash 1 second, eclipsed 9 seconds—on the southern end of the cape.
Approximate position of Cape St. Elias : Latitude 59° 47′ 45″ N., longitude 144° 36′ W.
Further notice will be given.
DIXON ENTRANCE.—CAPE CHACON.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—On 7th March, 1912, a flashing white acetylene light of about 430 candle-power, showing 1 group of 2 flashes every 6 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 0·9 second; flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 4·5 seconds—was established on Cape Chacon, Dixon Entrance, Alaska, on the bearings :—
Cow Island, left tangent, 42° 30′.
Barren Island, 82° 30′.
Nunez Rocks, northern rock, 237° 30′.
The light is exhibited 50 ft. above the water from the top of a white wooden house erected on the extremity of the cape.
Approx. position : Lat. 54° 41′ 30″ N., long. 132° 1′ W.
CORDOVA BAY.—DEWEY ROCKS.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 6 (386) of 1912, further notice is given that on 5th March, 1912, an unwatched flashing white acetylene light of about 180 candle-power, showing 1 flash every 5 seconds—thus, flash 0·5 second, eclipsed 4·5 seconds—was established on Dewey Rocks, Cordova Bay, Alaska.
The light is exhibited 45 ft. above the water from the top of a small, pyramidal, concrete tower erected on the highest rock of the group, on the bearings :—
Cape Muzon, tangent, 234°.
Kaigani Point, tangent, 272°.
Round Islands, left tangent, 339°.
Approx. position : Lat. 54° 44′ 45″ N., long. 132° 29′ 15″ W.
CORDOVA BAY.—MELLEN ROCK.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 6 (387) of 1912, further notice is given that on 5th March, 1912, an unwatched flashing white acetylene light of about 180 candle-power, showing 1 flash every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—was established on Mellen Rock, Cordova Bay, Alaska.
The light is exhibited 29 ft. above high water from the top of a small pyramidal concrete tower erected on the highest part of the rock, on the bearings :—
Lime Point, right tangent, 39°.
Mabel Island, left tangent, 122°.
Point Webster, tangent, 153° 30′.
Approx. position : Lat. 55° 1′ 30″ N., long. 132° 40′ W.
RED SEA.
PERIM ISLAND.—INTENDED CHANGE IN CHARACTERISTIC OF LIGHT.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 37 (2658) of 1911, further information dated 19th February, 1912, has been received that on 1st April, 1912, the provisional flashing white light on Perim Island, Red Sea, would be replaced by a permanent flashing white light showing 1 group of 4 flashes every 15 seconds.
The new light will be elevated 266 ft. above high water.
Approx. position : Lat. 12° 39′ 14″ N., long. 43° 25′ 59″ E.
BRAZIL.
RIO GRANDE DO SUL.—TORRES POINT LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 11 (744) of 1912, further notice is given that the characteristic of the light recently established on Torres Point, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, is flashing, showing 1 group of 3 white flashes followed by 1 red flash every 15 seconds, and not as previously stated.
Approx. position : Lat. 29° 20′ S., long. 49° 43′ W.
MALACCA STRAIT.
KLANG STRAIT.—PULO PINTO GEDONG LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—Information dated 6th February, 1912, has been received that the fixed white light formerly shown on Pulo Pinto Gedong, Klang Strait, has been replaced by a flashing white light every 5 seconds elevated 40 ft. above the sea and visible 11 miles.
The new light is exhibited from a white steel structure of 4 columns erected 30 ft. northward of the old tower, which will be removed.
This light is obscured when bearing southward of 96°.
Approx. position : Lat. 2° 54′ N., long. 101° 15′ E.
TANJONG SAU (DEEPWATER POINT).—LIGHTS RE-ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 4 (257) of 1912, further notice is given that the two fixed white vertical lights on Tanjong Sau, Klang Strait, have been re-established. The lights are shown from a flagstaff located 350 ft. 217° from the former position. The upper light is 80 ft. and the lower light 60 ft. above the water.
Approx. position : Lat. 3° N., long. 101° 20′ 30″ E.
BAY OF BENGAL.
HUGLI RIVER ENTRANCE.—INTERMEDIATE LIGHT-VESSEL.—INTENDED CHANGE OF POSITION.—During April, 1912, intermediate light-vessel, Hugli River entrance, Bay of Bengal, will be moved 800 yards 85° from its present position, and re-established in (approximately) latitude 21° 13′ 40″ N., longitude 88° 11′ 35″ E., on B.A. Chart No. 814.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
HAWAII.—WEST COAST.—KAILUA BAY.—LIGHT DISCONTINUED.—The fixed red light formerly exhibited on Kukailimoku Point, Kailua Bay, west coast of Hawaii, has been discontinued.
Approx. position : Lat. 19° 38′ 40″ N., long. 156° 0′ 20″ W.
OAHU ISLAND.—HONOLULU HARBOUR.—WHARF BUILDING.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.—During the construction of a new wharf northward of Alakea Wharf, Honolulu Harbour, Hawaiian Islands, a red buoy, showing a red light at night, will be established by the Territorial Government to mark the extremity of the old Kinau Wharf.
This buoy will be located on the following bearings :—
Honolulu Harbour Lighthouse, 210°.
Quarantine Wharf, right tangent, 259°.
Honolulu Fort Street Light, 359° 30′.
CHILE.
MAGELLAN STRAIT.—NEW BANK.—BUOY REPLACED BY LIGHT-BUOY.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 7 (457) of 1912, the Chilean Government has given further notice that the black buoy marking the south-western edge of New Bank, Magellan Strait, has been replaced by a light-buoy exhibiting a flashing white light every 20 seconds—thus, flash 2 seconds, eclipsed 18 seconds.
Approximate position on H.O. Chart No. 444 : Latitude 52° 50′ 50″ S., longitude 70° 26′ 30″ W.
