Altitude, 200 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Hilly and broken land; about half fern and manuka, balance heavy mixed forest comprising scattered kauri (only sufficient for settler’s requirements), rata, rimu, pukatea, taraire, rewarewa, mamaku, kohekohe, with thick undergrowth of kohutuhutu, mahoe, hangehange, makomako, punga, kiekie, and supplejack. Soil inferior clay and pipeclay, on papa formation; well watered. Distant about five miles from Towai Railway-station by formed road.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this nineteenth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and twelve.

Opening Land in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.


ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-second day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twelve; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Weighted with £56, valuation for improvements consisting of whare with iron roof and chimney and 46 chains of fencing.

Altitude, 800 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; about 200 acres light mixed forest comprising tawa, rimu, rata, with thick undergrowth of scrub; balance fern land. Soil of fair quality, of a pumice nature on volcanic cement formation; indifferently watered. Situated about thirty miles from Rotorua—twenty-three miles by coach-road to Rotorua Post-office, and the balance by good formed road. Access also from Matata, fifteen miles, by formed road, but some of the streams have not been bridged.

Approximately one-half of the section is level or in terraced flats; the balance easy slopes; good soil. Part of section between Nelson coach-road and the Brown River is rather low and damp. All milling-timber has been removed. The right is reserved to the use of the tram-line existing on the land while the sawmill is working in Ronga Valley. Situated on the main Blenheim—Nelson coach-road, about nineteen miles from Havelock, and within 50 chains of the Flat Creek Dairy Factory.

Opening Settlement Lands in Marlborough Land District for Selection.


ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the eighth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twelve, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.
