No. 31020.—11th March, 1912.—HAROLD ERNEST COOPER, of Railway Street, Rockdale, New South Wales, Australia, Traveller (nominee of George Oswald Duigan, of No. 50 Nickson Street, Surry Hills, near Sydney, New South Wales aforesaid, Engineer). An improved mirror-adjustment.

Extract from Specification.—The mirror-stand consists of the usual uprights, and to these uprights are pivoted arms, and at the other ends of such arms are pivoted links. Such links are provided with arms pivoted thereto and having toothed recesses capable of holding a lug or pin on each of the uppermost arms. The links may be fastened in any suitable manner to the side of the mirror-frame. Stops are provided in the uprights to limit the action of the pivoted arms above referred to.

No. 31027.—13th March, 1912.—ROBERT MURTON POOLE, Draper, and FREDERICK HENRY DANIEL, Solicitor, both of Mount Gambier, South Australia, Australia. Improvements in spraying-system and apparatus.

Extract from Specification.—By this system a pumping plant is used with automatic mixers for producing a spraying-compound having the strength required for use, and in addition there is a system of surface or underground pipes extending to and between the trees and the plants of any desired extensive fruitgrowing-area, constituted by one or a series of orchards or the like. The owners of such orchards are thus enabled to secure the benefits of co-operation, and many owners may each spray at one time and each one have one or more men engaged in spraying independently of other men’s assistance locally. There are provided various mixers, pressure-spraying devices, and connections constituting the features of novelty.
(Specification, 10s.)

[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]

Claims.—(1.) In a wheel-tire, the series of ribbon-steel springs having wire-threaded curled ends, in combination with a cover or the like, and a wheel-rim, and a hooked or like bolt-fastening, substantially as set forth. (2.) In a wheel-tire, an outer series of ribbon-steel springs having curled ends, in combination with an inner series of like springs of less length, and wires or the like through the curls. (3.) In a wheel-tire, springs as in the preceding claim, the outer series breaking joint with the inner series, substantially as indicated with reference to Fig. 5.
(Specification, 2s. 9d.)

Claims.—(1.) In boat mechanism, a pair of pivoted levers each having an adjustable pedal and a fixed (or a fixed and an adjustable) hand-grip, with means to drive a propeller by gearing and connections. (2.) In boat mechanism, a pair of pivoted levers for hand and foot (or hand) operation, connections therefrom to drive a main shaft, a tail-shaft carrying a propeller and jointed to the main shaft, and a seat connected to a spindle connected to part of the said joint, whereby the propeller may be swung to steer the boat by turning the seat towards the objective.
(Specification, 2s. 9d.)

[NOTE.—Here follow four other claims.]

Claims.—(1.) In tachometers, a spring-controlled centrifugal governor adapted to operate an angle lever provided with a pin engaging a groove in the indicating-lever, said groove being shaped so as to compensate for the difference between the centrifugal force of the governor and the resistance of the balancing spiral spring thereof. (2.) In tachometers, an angle lever operated by a spring-controlled centrifugal governor and provided with a pin engaging a double-inclined groove in the indicating-lever, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
(Specification, 4s. 9d.)

[NOTE.—Here follow five other claims.]

No. 31048.—19th March, 1912.—GEORGE JOHN HOSKINS, M.Inst.M.E., of Wattle Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Engineer. Machine for trimming or fettling the socket and spigot ends of cast-iron pipes.

Claims.—(1.) Mechanical self-accommodating appliances as shown in Fig. 4, consisting of a sleeve with a cylindrical exterior but a square interior, such sleeve being adapted to revolve in a plane at right angles to its axis, but not susceptible to endway movement, in combination with an interior square sleeve having a central salient square block with four faces slightly convex, and a spindle within the square sleeve, the spindle having a square block adapted to loosely fit the square interior of the square sleeve, the square sleeve and the spindle being adapted to revolve with the outer sleeve in a plane at right angles to their axis, but the square sleeve and the spindle being adapted to have endway movement imparted to them independently of each other, as and for the purposes set forth. (2.) The appliances as set forth in claim (1), in combination with a cylindrical extension of the inner square sleeve, the cylindrical extension terminating in a chuck-face carrying adjustable tool-holders, as shown in Fig. 4, as and for the purposes specified.

No. 31052.—20th March, 1912.—GEORGE LEWIS GILBERTHORPE, of Claude Street, Carpenter and Joiner, and HEDLEY CHARLES MARSHALL, of Fuller’s Road, Builder, both of Chatswood, near Sydney, New South Wales. Improvements relating to adjustable fireproof and other blinds and louvres.

Extract from Specification.—It consists of either metal or wood slats connected together in ladder-like formation by means of jointed metal links pivoted to pins at the ends and other convenient parts of the slats, and arranged in pairs, to operate consecutively either for contraction or extension purposes. Each pair or set of links is capable of independent movement, and likewise of automatic adjustment when folding up, such movement always corresponding to the positions adopted by the slats (horizontal or slanting) when the blind or louvre is being raised or lowered, closed or opened. Slats and their attachments made wholly of metal, when used as designed in this invention, will serve the purpose of a fireproof blind or louvre, combined with which are recoil-spring winders with metal tapes, chains, or cords for lifting and lowering the slats. There are also suspended vertical clamping-bars for bringing the slats into contact with each other when the blind is lowered. In the event of fire occurring, these clamping-attachments are also devised to operate automatically by the release of the spring winders from their casings, which are secured with solder fusible at a comparatively low temperature.
