THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Rodney County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.

RODNEY COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Loan.

In the matter of the Counties Act, 1908, and of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, and the Acts amending the same respectively.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 15th day of July, 1911, a proposal was submitted by the Rodney County Council to the ratepayers of the Te Hana to Mangawai Special-loan District for raising a special loan of £1,500 for forming and metalling the Te Hana to Mangawai Road, and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For, 30; against, 14. And I declare the said proposal to be carried.

WAVERLEY TOWN DISTRICT.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, and its amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Town District of Waverley taken on the 9th day of January, 1912, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £3,000 for the purpose of formation, metalling, kerbing, and channelling streets and footpaths in the Township of Waverley, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 36, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 31.

I therefore declare that the proposal was not carried.

Consent under Section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909.

IN pursuance of the power conferred upon the Native Minister by subsection (b) of section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909, I, James Carroll, Native Minister, acting on the recommendation of the Tairawhiti District Maori Land Board, do hereby consent to a sale of Pouawa Nos. 3c and 3d No. 10 Blocks, containing 20 acres 2 roods, to R. M. Gore, subject to the same restrictions and to the same requirements as to confirmation and otherwise as if the land was not subject to Part XVI of the Native Land Act, 1909.

Consent under Section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909.

IN pursuance of the power conferred upon the Native Minister by subsection (b) of section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909, I, James Carroll, Native Minister, acting on the recommendation of the Tairawhiti District Maori Land Board, do hereby consent to a sale of Puhatikotiko 1b2b5 Block, containing 12 acres and 25 perches, to Himiona Katipa and Hani Haua, subject to the same restrictions and to the same requirements as to confirmation and otherwise as if the land was not subject to Part XVI of the Native Land Act, 1909.

The following Notice to Mariners, which has been received from Geelong Harbour Trust, is published for general information.

Hopetoun Channel.

On or about 7th December, 1911, the grab dredger “Henry Meakin” will commence dredging on the north side of the Hopetoun Channel, and will exhibit the usual signals by day and night.

Caution.—Masters and pilots in charge of vessels navigating the channel are requested to exercise the utmost caution in approaching the dredger, and to stop the engines whilst passing over her chains.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that on and after the 1st April, 1912, one fog-rocket will be fired every five minutes during thick weather.

Fog Signals.—Point Lonsdale.

With reference to General Notice to Mariners, dated 1st August, 1907, page 61, regarding the firing of a fog-rocket every five minutes in the event of the siren becoming disabled, mariners and others are hereby notified that on and after the 1st December, 1911, the firing of such rockets will be discontinued, and the siren apparatus—which has been improved—will be used to sound the siren every two minutes during thick weather.

Uncharted Rock.—Inner Route, Torres Strait.

The commanding officer of H.M. surveying ship “Sea Lark” has reported the discovery of a pinnacle rock with 11-ft. at low water in the following position:—

North Barnard Island ... S. 17° E., 6·7 miles.
Hall Point, Mourilyan ... S. 28° W., 2·6 miles.

Bearings are magnetic.

Uncharted Rock.—Inner Route, Torres Strait.

Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 18 of 1911, re the discovery of the above danger, further information has been received from the commander of H.M. surveying ship “Sea Lark” to the effect that foul ground extends about 130 yards from the rock in a W.S.W. direction, with depths of 5 and 6 fathoms on it, the whole being surrounded by depths of 9 fathoms (mud and sand).
