SHOT-AND-SHELL PRACTICE IN BOTANY BAY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 9th April, 1912.

THE military authorities in Sydney, New South Wales, have requested that attention be drawn to the fact that when a red flag is flying from any of the forts or rifle ranges visible at sea on the coast-line between North Head and Botany Bay it is an indication that shot-and-shell practice or rifle-firing seawards is taking place. Masters of all steamers and persons in charge of sailing-boats and craft of every description are warned that their vessels must be navigated at least three miles from the coast when a red flag is so flying, and they should not remain anywhere in the vicinity of the targets.

Chart affected: Admiralty Chart No. 1020.

GEO. LAURENSON.
