WHEREAS it has been found desirable for the use,
convenience, and enjoyment of the Waitaki-Bluff
Railway (Edendale to Toitois Branch) to take further land
near Edendale, in addition to land previously acquired for
the purposes of the said railway :
Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder,
Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New
Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities con-
ferred on me by sections twenty-nine and one hundred and
eighty-eight of the Public Works Act, 1908, and of every
other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this
behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land men-
tioned in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the
purposes above mentioned.

Allocating Land reserved and taken for a Railway to the
Purposes of a Road in the Waimairi County, near Riccarton.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto
forms part of land taken for the purposes of the
Hurunui-Waitaki Railway, and it is considered desirable to
allocate such land to the purposes of a road :
And whereas it has been certified by the Minister of
Railways that such land is not required for railway pur-
poses: And whereas such land is situated in the Waimairi
County, the local authority of which has assented to the
issue of this Proclamation :
And whereas His Excellency the Governor is of opinion
that the said local authority can conveniently construct and
maintain the said road :
Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron
Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in me by section one hundred and ninety-seven of the
Public Works Act, 1908, and of every other power and
authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the land described in the Schedule
hereto shall, upon the publication hereof in the New Zealand
Gazette, become a road. and that the said road shall be
under the control of the Waimairi County Council, and
shall be maintained by the said Council in like manner as
other public highways are controlled and maintained by the
said Council.

His Majesty’s Assent to the Shipping and Seamen Amend-
ment Act, 1911, and Date Act comes into Operation.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the Constitution Act it is, amongst
other things, provided that no Bill reserved for
the signification of His Majesty’s pleasure thereon shall
have any force or authority within the Dominion of New
Zealand until the Governor of the said Dominion signifies
by Speech or Message to the Legislative Council and the
House of Representatives of the said Dominion, or by
Proclamation, that such Bill has been laid before His
Majesty in Council, and that His Majesty has been
pleased to assent to the same :
And whereas a certain Bill passed by the Legislative
Council and House of Representatives of the said Do-
minion intituled “An Act to amend the Shipping and
Seamen Act, 1908,” the Short Title of which is the
Shipping and Seamen Amendment Act, 1911, was presented
to the Governor for His Majesty’s assent, and the said Bill
was reserved for the signification of His Majesty’s pleasure
thereon :
Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder,
