Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-sixth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and twelve.

Lands reserved under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), a Scenery Preservation Board is constituted, and it is enacted that such Board shall, when so directed by the Minister charged for the time being with the administration of the said Act, inspect any lands possessing scenic or historic interest, or on which there are thermal springs, and make inquiries respecting the same, and report to the Governor; and shall from time to time recommend what lands, whether Crown or private, shall be permanently reserved as scenic, thermal, or historic reserves: And whereas the said Board was duly directed to inspect and report on the lands described in the Schedule hereunder, and has recommended that the said lands should be permanently reserved for scenic purposes, and it is expedient to give effect to such recommendation:

Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers contained in the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereunder shall be scenic reserves under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and subject to the provisions thereof.

SCHEDULE.

UPPER RETARUKE VALLEY SCENIC RESERVES.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 1 acre 3 roods 28 perches, more or less, being Section No. 5, Block III, Manganui Survey District, situated immediately south of the western corner of Section No. 4, Block III, Manganui Survey District. Bounded towards the north-east by the Upper Retaruke Valley Road, and towards the south-west generally by a road and river-bank reserve along the north-eastern bank of the Retaruke River.

Also all that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 10 acres 1 rood 4 perches, more or less, being Section No. 3, Block III, Manganui Survey District. Bounded towards the west and north-east by Section No. 2, Block III, Manganui Survey District; towards the south-east by Section No. 4 of said Block III; and towards the south generally by the Upper Retaruke Valley Road.

As the same are delineated on the plan marked L. 616/1, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Also all that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 2 roods 11 perches, more or less, being Section No. 6, Block II, Manganui Survey District, commencing at the angle immediately north of traverse-peg marked XVI on the Upper Retaruke Valley Road. Bounded towards the west generally by a road and river-bank reserve along the eastern bank of the Retaruke River, and towards the east by the Upper Retaruke Valley Road to the place of commencement.

Also all that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 4 acres 2 roods, more or less, being Section No. 5, Block II, Manganui Survey District, commencing at the angle immediately west of traverse-peg marked VI on the Upper Retaruke Valley Road. Bounded towards the west generally by a road and river-bank reserve along the eastern bank of the Retaruke River, and towards the north-east and south-east by a public road and by the Upper Retaruke Valley Road to the place of commencement.

Also all that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 7 acres, 3 roods 14 perches, more or less, being Section No. 7, Block II, Manganui Survey District, commencing at the angle immediately north of traverse-peg marked IV on the Upper Retaruke Valley Road, opposite the southern boundary of Section No. 2. Bounded towards the south-west and north-west generally by a public road and by a road and river-bank reserve along the eastern bank of the Retaruke River, and towards the west generally by the Upper Retaruke Valley Road to the place of commencement.

Also all that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 6 acres 3 roods 11 perches, more or less, being Section No. 8, Block II, Manganui Survey District, situated between the eastern boundary of Section No. 2 and the Retaruke River, commencing at the angle between two roads immediately opposite traverse-peg marked LXXV. Bounded towards the north-east, east, and south generally by a public road and by a road and river-bank reserve along the western bank of the Retaruke River, and towards the west generally by a public road to the place of commencement.

As the same are delineated on the plan marked L. 616/1b, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this nineteenth day of March, 1912.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD, BART.,
PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and thirty-three (a) of the Public Works Act, 1908, it is enacted that a local authority shall not declare any county road or district road to be stopped until the consent thereto of the Governor by Order in Council gazetted is obtained:

And whereas the Hawke’s Bay County Council has applied for such consent in respect to the road described in the Schedule hereto:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the above-in-part-recited Act, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby consent to the Hawke’s Bay County Council closing the road described in the Schedule hereto.
