ARGENTINA.
PORT SAN ANTONIO.—VILLARINO POINT.—LIGHT EXHIBITED.—DIRECTIONS.—Referring to Notices to Mariners Nos. 47 (3407) and 51 (3683) of 1911, further notice is given that a fixed light with red and white sectors has been established on Villarino Point, Port San Antonio, Argentina.
The light shows red over an arc of 102° from 272° to 14°, covering Lobos Bank; mixed red and white light over an arc of 4° between the bearings 14° and 18°; white over an arc of 16° from 18° to 34°; mixed red and white light over an arc of 5° between the bearings 34° and 39°; red over an arc of 53° from 39° to 92°, covering Reparo Bank; obscured over an arc of 39° from 92° to 131°; white over an arc of 88° from 131° to 219°, covering the anchorage.
The light is exhibited, 122 ft. above the sea, from a square stone tower surmounting a stone house, both painted red and white in horizontal bands 2 ft. wide, and has a visibility of 18 miles for the white light and 10 miles for the red light.
Approx. position: Lat. 40° 49′ S., long. 64° 54′ 41″ W.
The shoal, with 7 ft. over it, recently discovered in the entrance, is located in the middle of the sector of mixed light passing westward of Palisa Bank.
Buoys Nos. 1 and 2 are moored on the bearing 197° 45′ from the light and mark the eastern limit of the white sector.
Directions.—Vessels entering at night should keep in the eastern sector of mixed light, with the lighthouse bearing 16° 15′, and should bear in mind that the flood tide sets toward Reparo Bank and the ebb tide toward Lobos Bank.
The remainder of the entrance channel will be marked by light-buoys.
GULF OF ST. GEORGE.—TOVA ISLAND.—BREAKERS TO WESTWARD.—Breakers have been reported westward of Tova Island, Gulf of St. George, Argentina, in (approximately) latitude 45° 4′ 20″ S., longitude 66° 6′ 30″ W., and latitude 45° 6′ 15″ S., longitude 66° 6′ 30″ W.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
MAUI ISLAND.—HAWEA POINT.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 46 (3379) of 1911, further notice is given that on 15th December, 1911, an unwatched, flashing white, acetylene light of 170-candle power, showing 1 flash every 5 seconds—thus, flash 1 second, eclipsed 4 seconds—was established on Hawea Point, north-western shore of Maui Island, Hawaiian Islands, on the following bearings:—
Mokuhooniki Rock, 345° 30′.
Lanai Island, left tangent, 213° 30′.
Lanai Island, right tangent, 256° 30′.
The light is exhibited 75 ft. above the sea and 16 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower surmounting the roof of a white, prismatic, iron service room.
A black derrick is located 85 yards south-westward of the lighthouse.
Approx. position: Lat. 21° 0′ 30″ N., long. 156° 40′ W.
HAWAII.—KUKUIHAELE.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 46 (3378) of 1911, further notice is given that on 15th December, 1911, an unwatched, acetylene, flashing white light of 170-candle power, showing 1 flash every 4 seconds—thus, flash 0·5 second, eclipsed 3·5 seconds—was established at Kukuihaele, north-eastern shore of Hawaii, 14 miles 120° from Kauhola Lighthouse.
The light is shown 16 ft. above the ground and 159 ft. above the sea from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower surmounting a white prismatic iron service room.
A sugar-warehouse is located about 35 yards northward of the light on the edge of the cliff. The light is visible over this warehouse excepting at very close range.
Approx. position: Lat 20° 8′ N., long. 155° 33′ 30″ W.
CHINA.
YANGTZE RIVER.—LANGSHAN CROSSING.—SHOAL EXTENDED.—BUOY TO BE CHANGED.—The Chinese Government has given notice that Johnson Flats, Langshan Crossing, Yangtze River, has extended to the eastward and that the Upper Crossing Buoy now lies 300 yards off the 3-fathom contour of that bank. Vessels should, therefore, pass to the eastward of this buoy which will be changed in colour from red and black in horizontal bands to black. The channel eastward of the buoy is ½ mile wide.
Approx. position: Lat. 31° 53′ N., long. 120° 47′ E.
GULF OF PECHILI.—PEI RIVER ENTRANCE.—BUOY RE-ESTABLISHED.—Information has been received that the Entrance Buoy, a black spar with a spherical topmark, has been re-established on Taku Bar, Pei River entrance, Gulf of Pechili, China, to mark the southern side of Ferguson Channel.
The buoy is moored 2·32 miles 69° from the front leading-beacons.
Approx. position: Lat. 38° 57′ 40″ N., long. 117° 44′ 53″ E.
Note.—Vessels are forbidden to anchor northward of a line joining Taku Light-vessel and this black buoy.
EAST COAST.—TUNG HAI OR EASTERN SEA.—DECREASED DEPTHS REPORTED.—Capt. D. D. Davies, of the British bark “Calcutta,” reports that while steering a 45° course from latitude 30° 35′ N., longitude 124° 17′ E., to latitude 30° 58′ N., longitude 124° 43′ E., eight soundings were taken with a Tanner-Blish sounding-machine, using Thompson tubes, all of which were checked with a hand lead, giving the following depths: 16¾, 17, 17¼, 19, 20, 20, 22, and 23 fathoms, with fine gray-sand bottom.
The charted soundings on the above course vary from 29 to 35 fathoms.
Note.—The above soundings do not have the same weight as soundings taken in a regular survey, and if engrossed on the charts should be accompanied by a note giving the authority.
Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Wellington, 14th February, 1910.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1911, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1912.

No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.

In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced in New Zealand.
Mines Department,
Wellington, 21st December, 1910.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £10,000 will be paid for the production of mineral oil as under:—
- (a.) £2,500 to be paid on proof being submitted that not less than 250,000 gallons of marketable crude oil has been won.
(b.) £2,500 to be paid on proof being submitted that not less than 250,000 gallons of marketable crude oil has been won.
(c.) £2,500 to be paid on proof being submitted that not less than 1,000,000 gallons of marketable crude oil has been won.
(d.) The balance of £2,500 to be paid to the person or company who first produces by his or its own refining plant 500,000 gallons of refined mineral oil.
“Marketable crude oil” shall contain not less than 90 per cent. of products (excluding water) which can be obtained by distillation.
“Refined mineral oil” may include benzine, petroleum, kerosene, or lubricating-oils.
The illuminating-oil in the refined state to have a specific gravity of 0·814 to 0·830, and a flashpoint of not less than 83° Fahr. by the Abel closed test.
- Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must be given in writing to the Minister of Mines not later than 31st March, 1912.
