Lower Channel Lights Nos. 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, and 17.—Fixed white lights exhibited 6 ft. above the water from the tops of single unpainted piles, spaced 165 yards apart, in a line extending about 1,335 yards 59° from Lower Channel Light No. 1. As dredging operations proceed this line of lights will be extended.
Lower Channel Lights Nos. 2 and 4.—Fixed white lights shown 6 ft. above the water from the tops of single unpainted piles marking the southern side of the new channel. Lower Channel Light No. 2 is located about 665 yards 81° 45′ from Lower Channel Light No. 1, and Lower Channel Light No. 4 about 165 yards 59° from Lower Channel Light No. 2. As dredging operations proceed this line of lights will be extended.
Note.—Vessels should use the old channel and leave all the above lights on the port hand in entering.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.—BONITA CHANNEL.—BUOY TO BE REPLACED BY GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY.—About 1st February, 1912, Bonita Channel Buoy 4, a first-class tall-type nun, moored in Bonita Channel, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, will be replaced by a gas and whistle buoy, conical in shape, surmounted by a pyramidal skeleton superstructure, and showing an intermittent red lens-lantern light every 20 seconds—thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 37° 49′ 50″ N., long. 122° 33′ 48″ W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.—BONITA CHANNEL.—INTENDED CHANGES IN BUOYAGE.—About 15th March, 1912, Bonita Channel Buoy 3, a first-class tall-type can, moored in Bonita Channel, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, will be replaced by a gas and bell buoy, conical in shape, surmounted by a pyramidal skeleton superstructure, and showing an intermittent white lens-lantern light every 20 seconds—thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 37° 49′ 37″ N., long. 122° 33′ 48″ W.
About the same date Bonita Channel Buoy 4, a first-class tall-type nun, will be replaced by a gas and whistle buoy, conical in shape, surmounted by a pyramidal skeleton superstructure, and showing an intermittent white lens-lantern light every 10 seconds—thus, light 5 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds.

SAN PABLO BAY.—BUOY TO BE CHANGED.—About 1st February, 1912, Lower Mid-channel Gas and Whistle Buoy, moored at the lower entrance to the dredged channel in San Pablo Bay, California, will be replaced by a gas and bell buoy, painted in perpendicular stripes, showing an intermittent white light every 30 seconds—thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 38° 1′ 36″ N., long. 122° 22′ 48″ W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—SUISUN BAY.—ARMY POINT GAS-BUOY TO BE NUMBERED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 45 (3247) of 1911, further notice is given that about 1st February, 1912, Army Point Gas-buoy, Suisun Bay, California, will be numbered 1A.
NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
MARSHALL ISLANDS.—KILI (HUNTER) ISLAND.—CORRECTED POSITION.—The master of the German steamer “Delphin” reports that the northern end of Kili (Hunter) Island, Marshall Islands, North Pacific Ocean, is located in (approximately) latitude 5° 37′ N., longitude 169° 10′ E.
OREGON.
COLUMBIA RIVER.—SMITH POINT LIGHT TO BE MOVED.—About 1st February, 1912, the red light shown from the dock of the Union Fishermen’s Co-operative Company, about ½ mile below Astoria, Columbia River, Oregon, will be moved and re-established on the north-east corner of the Elmore Cannery Dock in Astoria.
The new light will be an unwatched, fixed red, incandescent, electric light of about 12-candle power, suspended from a white cross-arm attached to the north-east corner of the building on the dock.
NEW GUINEA.
SOUTH COAST.—PORT MORESBY.—BASILISK PASSAGE.—EXPERIMENTAL RANGE-LIGHTS DISCONTINUED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 34 (2455) of 1911, further notice is given that the fixed white lights experimentally established on the range-beacons leading through Basilisk Passage, Port Moresby, south coast of New Guinea, have been discontinued.
Approximate position of front beacon, latitude 9° 29′ 30″ S., longitude 147° 10′ E.
CHILE.
GATICO COVE.—LIGHT DISCONTINUED.—The Chilean Government has given notice that the fixed red light formerly exhibited on the head of the North Mole, Gatico Cove, Chile, has been discontinued.
Approx. position: Lat. 22° 30′ 30″ S., long. 70° 15′ 40″ W.
WASHINGTON.
GRAYS HARBOUR.—INTENDED CHANGES IN AIDS TO NAVIGATION.—About 1st February, 1912, the following changes will be made in the aids to navigation in Grays Harbour, Washington:—
Grays Harbour Outer Bar Whistle Buoy will be moved about ¾ mile 161° and numbered 2.
Inner Buoy, a horizontally striped first-class nun, now missing, will be replaced about 1½ miles 71° from the present position of the whistle-buoy.
South Spit Jetty Buoy 2, a first-class nun, will be permanently discontinued.
Trustee Spit Buoy 4, a first-class nun, will be established in 35 ft. of water, about ⅜ mile 352° from its charted position off the end of the South Jetty.
Trustee Spit Buoy 2½, a first-class nun, will be moved about ⅜ mile 95° from its charted position and renumbered 6.
Point Brown Spit Buoy 0, a black first-class can, will be renumbered 1.
Point Brown Spit Buoy 1, a first-class can, will be renumbered 3.
Whitcomb Flats Bell-buoy 2B will be renumbered 8.
Channel Port Side Buoy 3, a second-class can, will be replaced by Junction Buoy, a horizontally striped second-class can.
Whitcomb Flats Buoy 4, a first-class nun, will be renumbered 2 and included in “Channel to Aberdeen.”
Channel Starboard Side Buoy 2A, a first-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 4.
Channel Starboard Side Buoy 2, a first-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 6.
Channel Port Side Buoy 5, a first-class can, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 1.
Grays Harbour Light No. 2 will be moved about 35 yards 180° and structure rebuilt.
Channel Starboard Side Buoy 4, a first-class spar, will be moved about 100 yards 338° and renamed Channel Buoy 8.
Beacon 6 will be permanently discontinued.
Channel Buoy 6, a second-class spar, now marking the position of Beacon 6, will be permanently retained on the station and renumbered 10.
Channel Starboard Side Buoy 6A, a second-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 12.
Channel Port Side Buoy 7, a second-class spar, will be permanently discontinued.
Beacon 8 will be permanently discontinued.
Channel Buoy 8, a second-class spar, now marking the position of Beacon 8, will be permanently retained on the station and renumbered 14.
Beacon 10 will be permanently discontinued.
Channel Buoy 10, a second-class spar, now marking the position of Beacon 10, will be permanently retained on the station and renumbered 16.
Channel Port Side Buoy 9, a second-class spar, will be permanently discontinued.
Beacon 12 will be permanently discontinued.
Channel Buoy 12, a second-class spar, now marking the position of Beacon 12, will be permanently retained on the station and renumbered 18.
Snag Island Buoy 6, a second-class spar, will be permanently discontinued.
Cow Point Channel Buoy 1, a third-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 3.
Cow Point Channel Buoy 3, a third-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 5.
Cow Point Channel Buoy 5, a third-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 7.
Cow Point Channel Buoy 7, a third-class spar, will be replaced by Channel Buoy 9.
Cow Point Light will be rebuilt.
Rennies Island Upper Light will be moved about 135 yards 350° and shown from an arm on a pile dolphin of a log boom.
URUGUAY.
MONTEVIDEO.—CHANGE IN CHARACTERISTIC OF LIGHTS.—The Government of Uruguay has given notice that the characteristics of the lights at the entrance to the harbour of Montevideo, Uruguay, have been changed as follows:—
The intermittent green light on the head of the west breakwater to flashing green, showing 1 flash every 3 seconds.
