are to pass such dredger. Two white lights will also be exhibited by night, one near the stem and the other near the stem of the dredger.

Caution.—As the dredger will be moored at head and stern, the engines of steamers must be stopped, and the dredger and the chains thereof passed at the lowest possible speed.

Further, as the dredged material is to be pumped ashore through a line of pipes, navigation of motor, sailing, or rowing boats between the northern alignment of the channel and the northern shore is prohibited.

In the event of the dredger being temporarily removed, a white light will be shown at night-time from the southern end of the pipe-line.

New Beacons.—Western Port.

Mariners and others are hereby informed that new beacons have been established at Western Port, in the positions and of the character described hereunder :—

(a.) A single pile beacon with square topmark, lower part red, topmark black, on Middle Spit, North Arm, two cables north of the south extreme of the Spit in 3 feet O.L.W., with Stony Point Jetty bearing south 75 degrees west, distant 1⅓ miles, and Sandy Point south 17 degrees west.

(b.) A single pile beacon with horizontal bar topmark, all black, on Spit to southward of Fairhaven Jetty, French Island, in 3 ft. O.L.W., with Ti-tree Point bearing south 14 degrees east, distant 1·5-6 miles, and Sandy Point south 19 degrees west.

(c.) A single pile beacon with circular topmark, all red, on outer “Chilcott” rock, dry at low water, and from which Ti-tree Point bears south 17 degrees east, distant 1⅛ miles, and Stony Point Jetty south 67 degrees west.

Notice to Mariners No. 1 of 1912.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—POSITION OF BUOYS IN MOTUIHI CHANNEL.

Wellington, N.Z., 3rd January, 1912.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 145 of 1911, the Auckland Harbour Board further notify that one red and two black buoys as below mentioned have been laid in the Motuihi Channel.

The red buoy is approximately 40 ft. south-eastward of the mid-channel rock, with extreme high southern point of Motu Tapu bearing N. 64° 31′ W. West extreme point Motu Koreho, S. 30° W.

Black buoy off N.W. end of Motuihi in 11 fathoms, extreme high south point of Motu Tapu, S. 77° 31′ W., West extreme point of Motu Koreho, S. 31° 16′ W. The second black buoy (southern) in 8½ fathoms, with high south point of Motu Tapu bearing N. 80° 39′ W. West extreme point of Motu Koreho, S. 34° W.

All bearings magnetic.

Buoys swung to flood tide when bearings were taken.

A knob of land on low eastern point of Motu Koreho Island on with base of eastern slope of Mount Wellington leads through the centre of channel between the red and black buoys.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Retail Bicycle Dealers’ and Repairers’ Shops in the City of Auckland under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the retail bicycle dealers’ and repairers’ shops in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the following hours shall be gazetted as the hours of closing for all such shops in the district—namely, 7 o’clock in the evening on four days in the week; 1 o’clock p.m. on the statutory half-holiday; and 10 o’clock p.m. on the one day, which shall be Friday in the case of those observing Saturday as the half-holiday, and Saturday in the case of those observing Wednesday as the half-holiday; also the day preceding a public holiday, at 11 p.m. : And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the retail bicycle dealers and repairers carrying on business in the City of Auckland :

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 15th day of January, 1912, all retail bicycle dealers’ and repairers’ shops in the City of Auckland shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The notice gazetted on the 8th day of March, 1906, fixing the closing-hours of all such shops in the city is hereby varied accordingly.

Dated at Wellington, this 10th day of January, 1912.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Retail Bicycle Dealers’ and Repairers’ Shops in the Borough of Mount Eden under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the retail bicycle dealers’ and repairers’ shops in the Borough of Mount Eden, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the following hours shall be gazetted as the hours of closing for all such shops in the district—namely, 7 o’clock in the evening on four days in the week; 1 o’clock p.m. on the statutory half-holiday; and 10 o’clock p.m. on the one day, which shall be Friday in the case of those observing Saturday as the half-holiday, and Saturday in the case of those observing Wednesday as the half-holiday; also the day preceding a public holiday, at 11 p.m. : And whereas the Mount Eden Borough Council has certified that the signature to such requisition represents a majority of the bicycle dealers and repairers in the borough :

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Florists’ Shops in the Borough of Hastings under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all florists’ and florist-requisites shops in the Borough of Hastings, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : 10 p.m. on five days of the week, and 11 p.m. on Saturday. And whereas the Hastings Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all florists’ shops within the Borough of Hastings :

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 15th day of January, 1912, all florists’ shops in the Borough of Hastings shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The notice gazetted on 21st day of May, 1908, fixing the closing-hours of all shops in the borough is hereby varied accordingly.

Dated at Wellington, this 10th day of January, 1912.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Fishmongers’ Shops in the City of Wellington under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the fishmongering trade in the City of Wellington, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, at 7 p.m. ; Saturday, 11 p.m. ; Thursday preceding Good Friday, 11 p.m. : And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the fishmongering trade within the City of Wellington :

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 15th day of January, 1912, all shops in the fishmongering trade in the City of Wellington shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Dated at Wellington, this 10th day of January, 1912.
