Approx. position: Lat. 17° 55′ S., long. 177° 16′ 50″ E. The lights in line bear 76° 40′.
AFRICA.
EAST COAST.—BEIRA.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED ON BUOY.—Information has been received that a fixed red light has been established on an iron staff surmounting black buoy No. 9, moored in Beira Anchorage, east coast of Africa. This buoy will subsequently be replaced by a light-buoy.

TONGA.—ERRATUM.—REEF S.-ERD OF PARAMA ISL.—Admiralty Notice to Mariners No. 1340 of 1911: Add to List of Publications affected—Pacific Isls., Vol. I, 1908, page 33. Nov.
REEF.—AMENDED NOTICE.—A reef, about 3 miles in extent E.S.E. and W.N.W., estimated to carry 10 ft. to 12 ft., marked by discoloured water, is reported to exist in 20° 53′ S., 172° 19′ W., erd. of Tonga Isls., about 14 miles wrd. from position given in prev. notice. Nov.
FIJI ISLANDS.—VITI LEVU.—NAVULA PASSAGE.—On 1st November, 1911, the following leading-lts. are to be est.:
(a.) Front lt., F. red, elev. 34 ft., R. 11 miles, exh. from a white beacon-tower 41 ft. high, in 17° 55′ S., 177° 16¾′ E., on beach in Momi Bay, 35¾ cables N. 72° E. from Navula Reef Lt.-h.
(b.) Rear lt., F. white, elev. 208 ft., R. 20 miles, exh. from a white beacon-tower 24 ft. high, 11½ cables N. 66° E. from the front lt. These lts. in line, N. 66° E., lead through the centre of Navula passage.
NEW BRITAIN.—SIMPSON HARBOUR.—A lt.-buoy, exh. a fl. white lt. every sec., is est. in 4° 14′ S., 152° 10½′ E., on the shoal erd. of Dawapia Rks., 9·4 cables S. 86° W. from the obser. spot on Matupi Isl. Nov.
BISMARCK ARCHIP.—NORTH ISL.—The following reefs exist in the vicinity of North Isl. (4° 32′ S., 149° 6′ E.):
(a.) A reef about 3½ miles long, which breaks, about 1·3 miles nrd. from the isl.
(b.) A reef which breaks, about 9 cables W.N.-wrd. from the isl.
(c.) A rk. carrying 3 fms., about 1·2 miles S.-wrd. from the isl.
(d.) A chain of reefs, extending for about 5 miles S.-wrd., about 3 miles S.-wrd. from the isl.
(e.) Two rks., carrying 3 fms., about 8 cables S.-erd of the isl. Nov.
OTILLEN REEF.—The position of this reef is reported to be inaccurate, its reported position is 4° 32′ S., 148° 45′ E. The reef has been marked “P.D.” on the charts, but its position has not been changed. Nov.
WHIRLWIND REEFS.—An iron beacon with hour-glass-shaped topmark, 24 ft. high, is est. in 4° 39¼′ S., 148° 18′ E., on nrn. end of srn. reef. Nov.
CHINA SEA, &C.
YANGTSE KIANG.—TSUNG MING CROSSING.—On 23rd September, 1911, the buoys marking the old crossing were to be withdrawn, and following buoys were to mark the new crossing:
(a.) E. entr. lt.-buoy, red, with Washaway beacon (31° 26½′ N., 121° 34¼′ E.), S. 1° E., 4·6 miles, marks the starb. side of chan. for inward-bound vessels.
(b.) First crossing buoy, surm. by a cyl., black, with the beacon, S. 27° E., 4·5 miles, marks the port side of the chan. for inward-bound vessels.
(c.) Second crossing lt.-buoy, red, with the beacon, S. 36° E., 50¾ cables, marks the starb. side of chan. for inward-bound vessels.
(d.) W. Spit lt.-buoy, red and black vert., with the beacon, S. 65° E., 7·8 miles, marks the port side of the chan. for inward-bound vessels. Nov.
AFRICA.
PUNGUE RIVER.—BEIRA HARB.—A F. red lt. is exh. from No. 9 buoy, 4½ cables S. 66° W. from Chiveve Pt. flagstaff (19° 49½′ S., 34° 49¾′ E.). This buoy is to be replaced later on by a lt.-buoy on Wigham’s system, which will also exh. a F. red lt. Nov.
EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, &C.
SINGAPORE MAIN STRAIT.—TREE ISL.—A lt.-h. is under constr. in 1° 9¼′ N., 103° 39¾′ E., on nrn. end of Tree Isl.
Reef. “Lt. building” has been charted against the above position. Nov.
ADEN GULF.—RED SEA.
SPECIAL WARNING TO MARINERS.—CAUTION.—See page 112. Nov.
LTS. EXTINGUISHED.—The following Turkish lts. in the Red Sea have been extinguished:
(a.) Jebel Teir, 15° 32′ N., 41° 49′ E.
(b.) Zebayir Isls., 15° 1′ N., 42° 10′ E.
(c.) Abu Ail Isls., 14° 5′ N., 42° 49′ E.
(d.) Mokha, 13° 18′ N., 43° 14′ E. Nov.
ITALIAN LTS.—The Italian Government has given notice that orders have been issued that all Italian lts. in the Red Sea are to be re-exh. Nov.
ZEBAYIR ISLS.—On some copies of Chart No. 143 Centre Pearl Isl. lt. (15° 1′ N., 42° 10′ E.) is incorrectly described as gp. fl. (2). On some copies of Charts Nos. 453 and 8p the lt. is described as gp. fl., the number of fls. not being mentioned. The correct description of the lt. is gp. fl. (3) every 10 secs. Nov.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
Western Australia.—North-west Coast.—Roebuck Bay.
NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the 15th November, 1911, an unattended dioptric fixed light of fourth order will be exhibited from a lattice steel beacon-tower, 16 ft. in height, erected on the summit (88 ft.) of Western Hill, Entrance Point. Latitude 18° south, longitude 122° 13′ east.
The light will be fixed green, and visible all round except between the bearings S. 38° W. and S. 62° W.; bearings magnetic and from seaward; range of visibility, about 8 miles.
Charts affected: No. 1048, Buccaneer Archipelago to Bedout Island; No. 858, Roebuck Bay.

Floating Timber, Port Phillip Bay.
MARINERS and others are informed that it has been reported that a log, 15 ft. by 2 ft., is floating between Gellibrand Pile and West Channel Pile Lights, and care should be exercised in navigating such waters. Efforts are being made to find and remove this obstacle.

Dredging in Mitchell River Channel, Gippsland Lakes.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the dredger “Pioneer” will, on or about the 22nd instant., commence dredging operations in the Mitchell River Channel, within the port of Gippsland Lakes. During such operations there will be exhibited a black ball by day, and two red lights (in a vertical position one over the other, not less than 6 ft. apart) by night, from the port or starboard side of the dredger, to indicate the side on which vessels navigating the channel
