No. 30307.—27th October, 1910.†—CHARLES REIMANN, of No. 4 Elizabeth Street, Redfern, near Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Hairdresser. An improved door-check and alarum.

Extract from Specification.—This improved door-check and alarum comprises an ordinary spring bell and a frame having a compressible end kept apart from push-rod of the ratchet-pawl of the bell by a spring or springs and the whole enclosed in a suitable casing. The compressible end as well as the stationary end of the frame or the casing has a spike or spikes, those of the former being adapted to be inserted into the door in a diagonal or inclined direction at the back of the door, and those of the latter to be inserted into the floor where the door is to be checked or held, and only sufficiently inserted to just hold the appliance in position.

No. 30319.—6th October, 1911.—CHARLES BURRIDGE, of Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Photographer. An improved rain-water strainer and filter.

Extract from Specification.—According, a drum, provided with a lid slidable on a downpipe, has a flange whereby it is supported in a manhole on the top of a water-tank. An overflow-pipe from the drum is connected to a waste-water pipe. A shoot, pivoted in the drum, is weighted to deliver into and rest upon the opening of the overflow-pipe. A slot in the bottom of the shoot is adapted to be covered by a slide and thereby regulate the opening. A can or cylinder, located below the slot in the shoot, contains a float-ball, and has a slot in its side. An outflow-pipe from the drum to the tank is covered with perforated zinc or the like, and has a slot in its side. A partition across the drum has an opening at the bottom, and separates filtering-material from the can or cylinder and outflow-pipe.

No. 30320.—6th October, 1911.—JAMES BEAGLEY, of Carlyle Street, Napier, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Contractor, and WILLIAM MCKENZIE ANGUS, of Taradale, Hawke’s Bay aforesaid, Contractor. Improved scaffold-bracket.

Claim.—(1.) A scaffold-bracket comprising, in combination, a frame in two parts, hinged together at one end, and clamped upon the upright by a thumbpiece at the other end, with a projecting bracket or brackets to receive the ledger or horizontal cross-pieces, substantially as specified and illustrated.

No. 30329.—5th October, 1911.—CHARLES EDWARD HARDLEY, of Auckland, New Zealand, Manufacturer. A detachable leg for baths and the like.

Extract from Specification.—The leg is formed with an inner curved part, in which the bath rests, and is secured thereto by means of projections fitting into recesses formed on a separate part, a countersunk screw-bolt and nut holding it in, firmly in position.

No. 30332.—9th October, 1911.—DAVID SCOTT, of Doyles-ton, Canterbury, New Zealand, Engineer. Improved apparatus for sharpening chaff-cutter knives and the like.

Extract from Specification.—According, the emery or other similar sharpening-wheel is fixed upon the end of flexible shafting, which is driven by means of a friction-pulley from the fly-wheel or a pulley of an engine or the like. Means are employed for throwing the apparatus out of gear.

Claim.—(1.) In sheep-dip races of the class described, bars for supporting the travelling band, extending one along each side of the band, and hinged at their upper ends to the race-frame, and supported at their other ends by ropes carried on a rotating drum, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

No. 30348.—11th October, 1911.—KNUT IVAR LIND-STROM, of Nykvarn, Sweden, Proprietor. Improvements in milking-machines.

Claim.—(1.) In milking-machines where the teats are subject to the action of teat-cups operated by means of vacuum or pressure, or both, the improvement that the teat-cups are adjustably connected with the milk-receiver by means of unelastic pipes, preferably of metal, and that the milk-receiver is suspended on the cow.
