Redividing County of Levels into Ridings, &c., under the Counties Act, 1908.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Order in Council dated the first day of June, one thousand nine hundred and ten, made under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the second day of June, one thousand nine hundred and ten, the boundaries of the Borough of Timaru were altered and a certain area was thereby excluded from the County of Levels, and it is therefore expedient to redivide the said County of Levels into fresh ridings, and also to determine the number of Councillors to be elected for each riding, and the date for the election of such Councillors:

Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the Counties Act, 1908, do hereby redivide the said County of Levels into six ridings, to be called the Seadown Riding, the Waimataitai Riding, the Point Riding, the Claremont Riding, the Otipua Riding, and the Tengawai Riding; and do hereby declare that the boundaries of the said ridings shall be those set forth under the names of the said ridings respectively in the Schedule hereto, and that the number of Councillors to be elected for such ridings shall be one for each riding; and I do further declare that Wednesday, the eighth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, shall be the day upon which the election of Councillors for the said ridings shall be held.

SCHEDULE.

SEADOWN RIDING.

All that area in Levels County bounded towards the north by a line along the middle of the Opihi River from a point opposite the westernmost corner of Rural Section No. 22302 to the sea; thence towards the south-east by the sea to the outlet of the Waitarakao Lagoon; thence towards the south-west by the south-western shore of the said Waitarakao Lagoon to Washdyke Creek; thence by that creek to the main North Road; thence by the main North Road and the Timaru–Pleasant Point main road to the Pleasant Point Town District; thence by the said town district to the westernmost corner of Rural Section No. 22302; and thence by a right line to the middle of the Opihi River, the place of commencement.

WAIMATAITAI RIDING.

All that area in Levels County bounded towards the north-east by Seadown Riding hereinbefore described from the junction of roads at the northernmost corner of Rural Section No. 14284 to the outlet of the Waitarakao Lagoon; thence towards the south generally by the Borough of Timaru to the Waimataitai Creek; thence by that creek to Morgan’s Road; thence by Morgan’s Road to the Upper Washdyke Road, by the Upper Washdyke Road to Hadlow Road, by Hadlow Road to Brockley Road, by Brockley Road to German Valley Road, and by the last-mentioned road to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 115, Rosewill Settlement; thence towards the west generally by the said Section No. 115 to Rolling Ridges Road; thence by Rolling Ridges Road to Hart’s Road; thence by Hart’s Road to Down’s Road; thence by Down’s Road to Levels Valley Road at the northernmost corner of Section No. 3, Block VIII, Pareora Survey District (Papaka Settlement); thence by Miller’s Road to Hall’s Road; thence by Hall’s Road to Cartwright’s Road; and thence by Cartwright’s Road to the place of commencement.

POINT RIDING.

All that area in Levels County bounded towards the north-east by a line along the middle of the Opihi River from a point opposite the westernmost corner of Rural Section No. 22786 to the north-western corner of Seadown Riding hereinbefore described; thence towards the east generally by the said Seadown Riding and Waimataitai Riding hereinbefore described to German Valley Road at the south-eastern corner of Section No. 115, Rosewill Settlement; thence towards the south by the said German Valley Road to Cliffs Road at View Point; thence by the road forming the north-eastern and northern boundaries of Section No. 104, Rosewill Settlement, to Tycho Flat Road; thence by Tycho Flat Road to Hay’s Road;
