Notice of Date of Examinations.—Extension of Time for receiving Entries.

NOTICE is hereby given that the time for receiving entries for the teachers’ D and C certificate examinations of January, 1912, is extended to the 15th October, 1911, or, with the late fee, to the 31st October, 1911. This extension does not apply to any examinations other than those for teachers’ D and C certificates.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.
TWO scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys not over sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination: the other, to be called the junior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys under fourteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have attended a Native school or schools under the control of the Education Department, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Native Schools Code, 1908. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 4th and 5th of December, 1911.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted so as to reach the Department not later than the 25th of October, 1911.
Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary for Education, Wellington.

Results of the Land Surveyors’ Examination, Australia and New Zealand, September, 1911.—New Zealand Candidates.

IT is hereby notified for general information that at the September examination twenty-six candidates presented themselves. Of these, Mr. Edward Fletcher Roberts, Dunedin, passed the examination with credit, obtaining over 80 per cent. of the maximum marks; Mr. David Nelson, Lands and Survey Department, Gisborne, Mr. Jarl Adolph Syverston, Greytown, and Mr. Henry Louis Percy Dyett, Lands and Survey Department, Wellington, passed the examination; while Mr. Allan Francis Waters, Lands and Survey Department, Wellington, and Mr. Ernest Gordon Wilson, Gore, who had previously passed in some of the subjects, completed their examinations.

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
Puponga Port is situated about fourteen miles from Collingwood by road, which is formed for part of the way only; the greater portion is along sea-beach. A wharf has been constructed by the Puponga Coal Company, and there is now direct steamer communication with Wanganui, Wellington, and Nelson. On Sections Nos. 2 to 28 the soil is of a sandy nature, suitable for light cultivation. The remaining sections comprise clay soil overlying conglomerate rock. Fresh water is readily obtained by sinking. The climate is fresh and bracing, and the rainfall abundant. The land is covered more or less with light manuka scrub.
TERMS OF SALE.
One-fifth of the purchase-money to be paid on the fall of the hammer, and the balance, with Crown-grant fee (£1), within thirty days thereafter; otherwise the part of the purchase-money paid by way of deposit shall be forfeited, and the contract for the sale of the land be null and void.
Title will be subject to Part XIII of the Land Act, 1908. Full particulars may be ascertained at this office.
