Plants declared to be Noxious Weeds by the Hokianga County Council and the Bay Town Board.—Notice No: 1534.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the undermentioned local authorities have by special order declared the plants enumerated opposite each to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the districts under the jurisdiction of each respectively :—

Regulations relating to the Importation of Potatoes into the Commonwealth of Australia.—Notice No. 1535.

THE following particulars, taken from the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette of 29th July, 1911, of the restrictions on the importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth are published for general information :—

The regulations published in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette of 25th March, 1911, are repealed, and it is now proclaimed that the importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth from any country is prohibited unless—

  1. They are accompanied by an official certificate, dated and signed by a responsible officer of a Government Department of the country of origin, identifying the potatoes, specifying the quantity, and certifying—

(a.) That at the date of the issue of the certificate they were, on inspection, found free from the disease caused by Phytophthora infestans (known as Irish blight), and from the disease Synchytrium endobioticum (known as potato canker, black scab, warty disease, and cauliflower disease in potatoes);

(b.) That they were grown in the country named;

(c.) That they were grown on premises known, after due investigation, not to be or to have been during the preceding twelve months infected with either of the said diseases;

(d.) That they were packed in the country of origin in clean new packages.

  1. The bags, crates, or other packages containing the potatoes are marked on the outside with the name of the country of origin and with other distinguishing mark or marks.

Provided that the Minister may permit potatoes which are certified by a Quarantine Officer to be free from disease to be imported under and subject to such conditions as the Minister may think fit to impose.

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II).

To the owner or owners of a parcel of land containing by admeasurement 2 acres, more or less, being Sections 6, 8, 17, 18, 20, 22, 25, and 26, in the Town of Arawata, in the Provincial District of Westland. The last registered owner of the land is William Gibson Johnston, of Hokitika, ironmonger, who cannot now be traced.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner or owners of the above-described land is or are, and believes that such owner is, or owners are, not in the Dominion :

Now, this notice calls upon such owner or owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his or their title to the land specified in this notice; and if such owner does or owners do not, within the time limited, so establish his or their title, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II).

Notice of Date of Examinations.—Extension of Time for receiving Entries.

Wellington, 4th September, 1911.

NOTICE is hereby given that the time for receiving entries for the teachers’ D and C certificate examinations of January, 1912, is extended to the 15th October, 1911, or, with the late fee, to the 31st October, 1911. This extension does not apply to any examinations other than those for teachers’ D and C certificates.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.

TWO scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys not over sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination: the other, to be called the junior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys under fourteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have attended a Native school or schools under the control of the Education Department, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Native Schools Code, 1908. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 4th and 5th of December, 1911.

Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted so as to reach the Department not later than the 25th of October 1911.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary for Education, Wellington.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to an application in that behalf made to me by the Otago Felt-hatters’ Industrial Union of Workers, registered number 399, situated at Dunedin, and in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 21 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, it is my intention to cancel the registration of that industrial union after the expiration of six weeks from the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, unless in the meantime cause is shown to the contrary.
