THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Invercargill, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.

BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.

In the matter of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, and the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, and the amendments thereof; and in the matter of a proposal of the Invercargill Borough Council to raise a special loan of £6,000 for the benefit of that part of the Borough of Invercargill known as Lindisfarne.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 21st day of September, 1911, a proposal was submitted by the above-mentioned Council to the ratepayers of that part of the borough known as Lindisfarne for raising a special loan of £6,000 for the purposes mentioned and set forth in the said proposal, which was published in the Southland Daily Times newspaper on the 19th day of August, 1911, 26th day of August, 1911, 2nd day of September, 1911, and the 9th day of September, 1911.

The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal was 87. The number of valid votes recorded against the proposal was 9. The total number of valid votes recorded was 96.

I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

QUEENSLAND.—NORTH CHANNEL, MORETON BAY.

Owing to the growth of the Venus Bank to the westward, close to the Junction buoy, Freeman Channel, masters of vessels navigating the North Channel, Moreton Bay, are advised to keep the Cowan Cowan and Tangaluma leads slightly open to the westward when approaching the above-mentioned buoy, keeping them so until well past it, both entering and leaving, and then proceed as usual.

Notice to Mariners No. 118 of 1911.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—ROCKS IN MOTUIHI CHANNEL.

Wellington, N.Z., 26th September, 1911.

THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that in sweeping the proposed new explosive anchorage south of Motu Tapu the following-mentioned rocks have been found to exist in the Motuihi Channel, viz.:

Rock No. 1.—West extreme Brown’s Island, S. 27½° W. South extreme Motu Tapu Island N. 70½° W. Water over same at low springs, 3¼ fathoms.

Rock No. 2.—West extreme Brown’s Island S. 31° W. South extreme Motu Tapu Island N. 65½° W. Water over same at low springs, 3¾ fathoms.

Rock No. 3.—West extreme Brown’s Island S. 21° W. South extreme Motuihi Island S. 66½° E. Water over same at low springs, 3¾ fathoms.

Rock No. 4.—West extreme Brown’s Island S. 37½° W. South extreme Motuihi Island S. 38¾° E. Water over same at low springs, 2 fathoms.

Rock No. 5.—West extreme Brown’s Island S. 39° W. South extreme Motuihi Island S. 36½° E. Water over same at low springs, 1¾ fathoms.

Also a small rock, with 2 ft. over it at low springs, 450 ft. N. 84° W. from the end of Motuihi Wharf. All bearings magnetic. Variation used 15° E.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after Monday, 9th October, 1911, the signals at Karamea River entrance to inward- and outward-bound vessels will be as follows:

For Inward-bound Vessels.

From Flagstaff at North Head,—

Day Signals—

Take the bar: Pennant “C” of the International Code.

Wait for tide: Pennant “D” of the International Code.

Bar dangerous: Pennant “E” of the International Code.

Bar unsafe for towing: Flag “Y” of the International Code.

Bar safe for towing: Flag “T” of the International Code.

Keep handy: Flag “I” of the International Code.

For Outward-bound Vessels.

Take the bar: Flag “B.”

Wait for tide: Flag “P.”

Bar dangerous: Flag “S.”

From Flagstaff East of Training-wall,—

Night Signals—

Take the bar: A green light 20 ft. vertically below a white light.

Wait: A green light on yard-arm to southward of white light, on horizontal line with it.

Bar dangerous: A green light on yard-arm to northward of white light, on horizontal line with it.

Bar safe for 7 ft.: A green light 20 ft. vertically below the white flagstaff light, and a white light to the southward in a horizontal line with it.

Bar safe for 5 ft.: A green light 20 ft. vertically below the white flagstaff light, and a white light to the northward in a horizontal line with it.

No vessel to enter until the signal “Take the bar” is shown, though all the leading-lights may be visible.

For Outward-bound Vessels only.

Vessels may proceed out: A green light 15 ft. vertically above the white light.

No vessel to proceed out before the signal is shown, notwithstanding that all the leading-lights may be visible.
