Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the City of Wellington where Tobacco, Cigars, or Cigarettes are sold under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all shops in the City of Wellington wherein is carried on the trade of a seller of tobacco or cigars or cigarettes, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, at 8 p.m.; Wednesday, at 1 p.m.; Saturday, at 10.30 p.m., except on the night before Good Friday, Anniversary Day, Labour Day, and King’s Birthday, when the hour of closing shall be 10 p.m.; Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, at 11 p.m.: And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the City of Wellington wherein is carried on the trade of a seller of tobacco or cigars or cigarettes:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 25th day of September, 1911, all such shops in the City of Wellington shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The notice gazetted on 10th May, 1906, fixing the closing-hours of all tobacconists’ shops is hereby cancelled.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Retail Butchers’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the retail butchers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, at 5.30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 p.m.: And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops carrying on business as retail butchers within the Borough of Wanganui:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 25th day of September, 1911, all such shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908.—Notice of Proposed Cancellation of Registry.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to an application in that behalf made to me by the Auckland Builders, Contractors, and General Labourers’ Industrial Union of Workers, registered number 701, situated at Auckland, and in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 21 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, it is my intention to cancel the registration of that industrial union after the expiration of six weeks from the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, unless in the meantime cause is shown to the contrary.

Notice of Date of Examinations.—Extension of Time for receiving Entries.

NOTICE is hereby given that the time for receiving entries for the teachers’ D and C certificate examinations of January, 1912, is extended to the 15th October, 1911, or, with the late fee, to the 31st October, 1911. This extension does not apply to any examinations other than those for teachers’ D and C certificates.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.

TWO scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys not over sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination: the other, to be called the junior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys under fourteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have attended a Native school or schools under the control of the Education Department, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Native Schools Code, 1908. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 4th and 5th of December, 1911. Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted so as to reach the Department not later than the 25th of October, 1911.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary for Education, Wellington.
