Minister’s Decisions under Customs Duties Act.

Department of Trade and Customs, Wellington, 20th September, 1911.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Duties Act in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the Dominion” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus † are revised decisions.

Record. Goods Classification under Tariff, and Item No. Rate of Duty.
General Tariff. Preferential Surtax on Foreign Goods.
11/1607 Cotton or linen piece-goods and unions of the same n.o.e., having thereon patterns, woven devices, or other designs, which indicate that they are to be cut up into separate articles or to be manufactured into separate articles, provided that the weaving of each piece is continuous, and also that such piece represents not less than six articles As cotton or linen piece-goods and unions of the same n.o.e. (286) Free.
11/1607 Cotton or linen piece-goods and unions of the same n.o.e. which have been woven in a wide loom and afterwards split down the middle and the raw edge only of each split piece hemmed or whipped in lieu of selvedge, provided the hemming or whipping is simply to make a permanent edge to a straight-cut split piece As cotton or linen piece-goods and unions of the same n.o.e. (286) Free.
