Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and eleven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Flat and easy hill country; a small patch of fern on Kirikopene Road, where kauri has been worked off; balance of section heavy mixed forest comprising taraire, rimu, rata, kohekohe, and kahikatea. Soil heavy clay, on sandstone formation; fairly well watered by small streams. Distant about twenty-seven miles from Whangarei—twenty-five miles by the Mangakahia Road to Parakao Post-office and store, thence two miles by Kirikopene Road, partly formed.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Flat and easy hill country; about one-third fern (originally old kauri-workings), balance mixed forest comprising taraire, rimu, rata, kohekohe, kahikatea, and a small amount of totara and small dry kauri-trees. Heavy clay soil, on sandstone formation; well watered. Distant about twenty-four miles from Whangarei, twenty-two miles by the Mangakahia Road, remainder by Otarao Road, partly formed.

WHANGAREI AND HOBSON COUNTIES.- MANGAKAHIA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. Easy hill country; one-half fern and old kauri-workings, balance mixed forest comprising kahikatea, taraire, rimu, rata, kohekohe, with undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, ferns, and nikau. Soil heavy clay, on sandstone formation; well watered. Distant about twenty-three miles from Whangarei—twenty-two miles by the Mangakahia Road, balance by Otarao Road, partly formed.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. About one-third mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, taraire, kahikatea; balance open, fern, and manuka land; portion fronting Mangakahia Road is flat and of inferior quality, covered with


manuka and rushes; the forest land is of fair quality. Soil heavy clay, on sandstone formation; fairly well watered by small stream. Access by Mangakahia Road (formed dray-road), about twenty-four miles from Whangarei.

WHANGAREI COUNTY.- MANGAKAHIA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Easy hill country, about half fern and manuka (worked out kauri forest), and half mixed forest comprising kahikatea, taraire, rimu, rata, and kohekohe; undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, and ferns. Heavy clay soil of inferior quality on fern land resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Fronts Mangakahia Road, about twenty-two miles from Whangarei and three miles from Parakao Post-office and store.

RAGLAN COUNTY.- MARAMARUA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 275 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with fern and scrub. Soil a reddish loam and clay, of inferior quality, on papa formation; indifferently watered. Situated on Tuakau-Glen Murray Road, about eleven miles from Tuakau Railway-station by formed cart-road, partly metalled.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. Open, fern, and scrub land, except about ten acres light mixed forest and a few acres swamp; level, undulating, and hilly. Soil a reddish loam and clay of medium quality, on papa formation; well watered. Situated on Tuakau-Glen Murray Road, about twelve miles from Tuakau Railway-station by formed cart-road, partly metalled.
