Warrant authorizing the Pelorus Road Board to construct
a Bridge over the Wairau River near Renwicktown, and
apportioning the Cost.
ISLINGTON, Governor.
WHEREAS by section one hundred and nineteen of
the Public Works Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed
“the said Act”), it is, inter alia, enacted that in any case
where the local authority of any district desires to con-
struct a bridge, or to establish a ferry or ford, in any
position that will, in its opinion, be of advantage or benefit
to the whole or any considerable portion of the inhabitants
of an adjacent district, as well as to the inhabitants of its
own district, and where it is, in the opinion of such local
authority, reasonable that the local authority of such ad-
jacent district should contribute to the cost of constructing
or establishing the said bridge, ferry, or ford the provi-
sions of the said section shall have effect :
And whereas the Pelorus Road Board has given notice
and taken the steps required by the said Act, and has made
application to the Governor to authorize the construction
of the bridge, approaches, and protective works described
in the Schedule hereto, and hereinafter referred to as “the
said work,” and to apportion the cost of constructing and
establishing the said work between the said Road Board
and certain other local authorities :
And whereas it is also provided in the said Act that the
Governor (with the view of determining whether or not
the work should be done, or what proportion, if any, of
the cost of the same should fairly be borne by any local
authority, or what local authority should do the work) may
direct any Magistrate or other person to be a Commissioner
to inquire into and report to him on the matter :
And whereas a Commissioner was appointed, and an
inquiry was duly held in the manner provided by the
said Act in respect to the said work, and in respect also
to the apportionment of the cost of constructing the said
work :
And whereas such Commissioner did report to the Go-
vernor, after due inquiry, his opinion as to the matters
respecting which he was appointed to report :
And whereas I am of opinion that the work, together
with the additional works described in the said Schedule,
which the Commissioner has recommended should be car-
ried out, should be done, and it is expedient to make pro-
vision under the said Act for the purposes and in the
manner hereinafter set forth :
Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder,
Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New
Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested
in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and autho-
rities in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby
authorize the Pelorus Road Board to execute the said work
and additional works described in the Schedule hereto;
and I do hereby declare that the cost thereof, less such con-
tribution as may be made thereto (if any) by the Govern-
ment of New Zealand, shall be borne by the Pelorus Road
Board, the Havelock Town Board, the Picton Road Board,
the Blenheim Borough Council, the Omaka Road Board,
the Wairau Road Board, and the Spring Creek Road Board
in the following proportions, viz. : The Pelorus Road
Board to bear forty per centum of such cost, the Havelock
Town Board to bear five per centum of such cost, the
Picton Road Board to bear two per centum of such cost,
the Blenheim Borough Council to bear twenty-five per
centum of such cost, the Omaka Road Board to bear six-
teen per centum of such cost, the Wairau Road Board to
bear nine per centum of such cost, and the Spring Creek
Road Board to bear three per centum of such cost respec-
tively.
And I do hereby also further direct that any contribu-
tion hereby required to be made as aforesaid by the Have-
lock Town Board, the Picton Road Board, the Blenheim
Borough Council, the Omaka Road Board, the Wairau
Road Board, and the Spring Creek Road Board shall be
paid from time to time respectively as the work proceeds
in the proportions hereinbefore prescribed, out of the funds
of the said Boards or Council, within a period of thirty
days after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the
Pelorus Road Board, and all such payments for and on
account of such Road Boards, Town Boards, and Borough
Council shall be made to the Clerk of the Pelorus Road
Board.
SCHEDULE.
THAT bridge over the Wairau River, together with the
approaches and protective works thereto, situated in the
Marlborough County, Marlborough Land District, on the
Nelson to Blenheim Road ; as the said bridge, approaches,
and protective works are more particularly described in
the specification, and delineated on the plan marked
P.W.D. 25815, deposited in the office of the Minister of
Public Works, including the following additional works,
viz. : the raising of the approach to the bridge on the
Renwicktown side by 7 ft., and the extension of the same
for a distance of 5 chains from the said bridge, and the
protecting of such approach as extended on the up-stream
side only with stone gabions 7 ft. high on the slope.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this fourteenth day of June, one thousand nine
hundred and eleven.

Warrant vesting Control of Portions of Boston Road and
Portions of Mount Eden Road in the Auckland City
Council, and apportioning the Cost of Construction and
Maintenance of the Same.
ISLINGTON, Governor.
WHEREAS by section twelve of the Public Works
Amendment Act, 1909 (hereinafter termed “the
said Act”), it is provided that where a road or street lies
along the boundary of two or more districts, whether that
road or street is wholly within one or is partly within one
and is partly within another of those districts, or is within
none of those districts, the Governor may from time to
time, by Warrant under his hand gazetted, direct which
of the local authorities of those districts shall have control
of the road or street, or any part thereof, and may also
in like manner determine from time to time whether any
of those local authorities shall contribute to the cost of the
construction or maintenance of that road or street, and,
if so, in what proportions :
And whereas the portions of streets known as Boston
Road and Mount Eden Road, described in the Schedule
hereto, and hereinafter termed “the said portions of
streets,” form the boundary between the Auckland City
and the Borough of Mount Eden :
And whereas a dispute has arisen as to which local
authority should have control of the said portions of
streets, and what proportion of the cost of constructing
and maintaining the said portions of streets should be
borne by the local authorities affected :
And whereas an inquiry was duly held, and a report was
made, in respect to the matter :
And whereas it is expedient that effect should be given
to the recommendations contained in the said report, and
that provision should be made for the purposes and in the
manner hereinafter set forth :
