No. 29523.—10th May, 1911.—ALFRED HAYMAN ROBERTS, of “Rockbank,” Victoria Street, East Brunswick, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Contractor. Improvements in detachable rims for pneumatic tires of motor-cars and suchlike vehicles.
Extract from Specification.—According to this invention, the rim is made in two parts or halves, preferably bevelled to fit the one over the other, the removable part having lateral slots from its inner edge, terminating in enlarged holes, or longitudinal slots adapted to coincide with similar holes or slots in the permanent part of the rim, so that the enlarged shanks of the security-bolts passing through same lock the two parts together. I also provide means whereby the bead of the tire-cover is held up from the permanent part, thus enabling the edge of the removable part being inserted thereunder; and further means whereby the security-bolts are mechanically raised out of the slots when loosened; and, in addition, means whereby an additional lock may be provided for securing the two parts together, particularly in proximity to the valve.
[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
(Specification, 6s. 9d.)
No. 29529.—27th October, 1910.†—ERNEST EDMUND BANES, of 5 The Avenue, Strathfield, near Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Metallurgist. Feeding-tuyere for ore-treating furnaces.
Claims.—(1.) A metallurgical-furnace fitting consisting of concentric nozzles with air and gas connections respectively, the central nozzle being rifled internally, and within said central nozzle a mineral-feeder tube fitted with an auger-screw conveyor.
[NOTE.—Here follow two other claims.]
(Specification, 5s. 9d.)
No. 29544.—16th May, 1911.—THE BEVAN LOCK NUT COMPANY, LIMITED, of Friar’s House, New Broad Street, London, England, Manufacturers (assignees of John Anstee Wilks, of the Sandford Engineering Works, Sandford Road, Bexley Heath, Kent, England, Works-manager). Improvements in or connected with nut-locks.
Claim.—(1.) A nut-lock of the type comprising a longitudinal slot in the nut portion, and a roller or rollers, pawl or pawls, or other locking device or devices in said slot adapted to be locked between the outer face of the slot and the thread of the screw, provided with a cage fixed in the slot for the purpose of holding the locking device or devices in position and for preventing same from falling out when the nut is removed from the screw.
[NOTE.—Here follow eight other claims.]
(Specification, 8s. 9d.)
No. 29547.—16th May, 1911.—CHARLES JOSEPH MORETON, of Balclutha, Otago, New Zealand, Photographic and Fancy-goods Dealer. An improved combined drawing-board, desk, and instructional apparatus.
Extract from Specification.—The easel is formed with a front 1 and back 2 pivoted together upon a pin 3 in the usual manner. The front 1 is, however, extended upwards above the pin 3, and forms part of a frame, wherein rollers 4 and 5 are pivoted and operable by knobs 7 and 8 projecting laterally from the front 1. A band 9 coiled upon the rollers 4 and 5 is made of black material and inscribed in white with subject-matter to be imparted by a teacher. . . . The drawing-board located below the rollers 7 and 8 is in a convenient position to be used by a pupil while copying matter contained upon the band 9. The drawing-board forms a lid to a desk 10.
[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
(Specification, 2s. 3d.)
No. 29564.—18th May, 1911.—WILLIAM MANSER, of Lal Lal, Victoria, Australia, Farmer. Improvements in locomotive-spark arresters and the like.
Extract from Specification.—This invention relates to spark-arresters and the like for locomotives, traction-engines, and so forth, of that class wherein apertured baffles are employed within the smoke-box or funnel, or both. . . . My baffles are of suitably light construction, of grid form or of perforated or plain material, or a frame filled by chain mesh is used, whereupon the chain not only reciprocates, but also shakes. Reciprocating-chain arrangements can vary, chains which shake but do not reciprocate not being claimed. To support or control each baffle I use one or more spiral springs, which may vary in strength and may have internal rod-guides, and to regulate the positions and range of travel of various parts suitable means are used. The said construction may be combined with one or more fixed screens or baffles.

(Specification, 6s.)
No. 29566.—18th May, 1911.—GEORGE NESBITT, of 408 Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Acting Officer-in-Charge, Pacific Cable* Board. Improvements in trunk-fastenings and the like.
Claims.—(2.) In a fastening of the class indicated, two members as A, B—links, loops, or the like through which they pass, an adjustable or other member connecting with the said links or loops—and means to tighten up the respective members simultaneously, substantially as described. (3.) In a fastening of the class indicated, the members A, B, having each one or more apertures formed by splicing for the purpose set forth, and having tightening-means or connections as described.
[NOTE.—Here follow three other claims.]
(Specification, 6s.)

Extract from Specification.—According to the present invention, an unbalanced tool, which may be provided or not with a cutting-edge, is mounted on the free end of a flexible shaft, so that when the shaft is rotated at a suitable speed a vibratory action is set up, and when the tool is brought into contact with the surface to be treated the said surface is subjected to a very rapid succession of blows, or a hammering-action.
[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
