Notice to Mariners No. 54 of 1911.

BLUFF HARBOUR.—REMOVAL OF TELEGRAPH SIGNAL-STAFF AT STIRLING POINT.

Wellington, N.Z., 4th May, 1911.

THE Bluff Harbour Board have notified that the signal-station at Stirling Point outside the entrance to Bluff Harbour has been removed, and vessels are not now able to communicate with this station by the International Code.

The Harbour Board have notified that this signal-station will probably be re-established at an early date, when another notice will be issued.

Notice to Mariners No. 55 of 1911.

NEWLY DETERMINED POSITION OF THREE KINGS ISLANDS, NORTH OF NEW ZEALAND.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 24 of 1911, Admiral G. King-Hall, R.N., Commander-in-Chief on the Australian Station, reports that further observations have been taken on shore in order to check with greater accuracy the position of the Three Kings Islands.

Circum-meridian altitudes of the sun were taken with an 8″ sextant and stand, with an artificial horizon, 25 yards S.E. of the provision depot on Great Island, Three Kings. Position of observation spot by Chart No. 1512 (large corrections, June, 1907), lat. 34° 7′ 55″ S., long. 172° 8′ 35″ E.; position of observation, lat. 34° 9′ 11″ S., long. 172° 9′ 1″ E. This places Great Island about 1¼ (one and a quarter) miles south and ⅓ (one-third) mile E. of the present charted position.

Notice to Mariners No. 56 of 1911.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—DREDGER OFF RAILWAY WHARF.

Wellington, N.Z., 9th May, 1911.

THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that the dredger “Hapai” is now working off the western side of the Railway Wharf, with six mooring-chains laid out in different directions. When in the channel a red ball by day and a red light by night will be shown by the dredger on the clearest side for passing.

Masters of vessels are warned to use great caution when approaching or passing the dredger.

Notice to Mariners No. 57 of 1911.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—ROCKS IN RANGITOTO CHANNEL.

Wellington, N.Z., 9th May, 1911.

LIEUTENANT JACKSON, R.N., in charge of Admiralty Survey of Auckland Harbour, reports the existence of the following rocks:—

  1. A small rock, about 12 yards square, with a depth of water at low water spring tides of 23 ft., in the following position:—

Bean Rock Lighthouse, bearing S. 38° E.
Resolution Point, bearing S. 29½° W.
or S. 51° W. magnetic, 265 yards from Kaipara Shoal buoy.

This rock is not in the main channel, but coasting-vessels passing inside the luminous buoy are warned of its existence.

This rock is now being removed; punt is moored on spot during the daytime, and removal will probably be effected within a week.

  1. A small rock, with 1¾ fathoms at low water spring tides, exists near the 2¼ fathom sounding shown on the published chart, to the S.W. of Rough Rock buoy. Its position is S. 16° W. magnetic, 270 yards from Rough Rock buoy.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, 6 p.m.; Tuesday, 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 6 p.m.; Friday, 6 p.m. (from Monday to Saturday in Christmas and New Year weeks excepted): And whereas the New Plymouth Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of New Plymouth:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 15th day of May, 1911, all such shops in the Borough of New Plymouth shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The notice gazetted on 2nd April, 1908, fixing the closing-hours of all grocers’ shops is hereby varied accordingly.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and its amendments, I hereby notify that the undermentioned Crown land, being the land known as the Allanholm Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Acts, is subject to the said Acts as from 31st March, 1911.

ALL that area in Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 2,195 acres 1 rood 34 perches, situate in Blocks IV, Elephant Hill Survey District, and XVI, Waihao Survey District, being rural sections numbered 4065, 4066, 17871, 18292, 18410, 18410x, 19202, 19202x, 19203, 22754, 27184, 29566, 34399, 34508, 36377, and parts of Rural Sections 18291, 18849, 19398, 24407, 25057, 25060, and 28804, being the whole of the land comprised in certificates of title Vol. 95, folio 218, Vol. 125, folio 266, Vol. 131, folios 95 and 101, and Vol. 185, folios 287 and 288, deposited in the Land Transfer Office, Christchurch; as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. 19419, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon edged green in the margin.
