February, 1911, on the proposal of the Thames Borough Council to borrow the sum of £3,500 to acquire a piece of land, situate at Parawai, for the purpose of providing a public recreation-ground, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 105, the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 193, and informal votes 1.
I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Treasury, Suva, is published for general information.

VIO ISLAND LIGHT.
It is hereby notified for general information that a new light will be instituted on the 1st February, to be known as the Vio Island Light. The lighthouse has been erected on Vio Island, near Lautoka, in the island of Vitilevu, latitude 17° 36′ 10″ S., longitude 177° 26′ 30″ E.
The light is a green, fixed, port light, and should be seen five (5) miles from a ship’s deck. It will be shown from sunset to sunrise.
The lighthouse is of lattice ironwork, painted white; height of centre of lantern above high water, twenty-five (25) feet; height of building from base to vane, twenty-two feet three inches (22 ft. 3 in.).
The illuminating-apparatus is a sixth-order “Chance” dioptric port light, to show fixed green light for 180 degrees.

OTAGO HARBOUR.—REMOVAL OF BUOY SOUTH OF HARRINGTON POINT.

THE Otago Harbour Board have notified that the shoal which was marked by a black buoy on the eastern side of the channel at the bend south of Harrington Point has been removed by dredging to a depth of 22 ft. L.W.O.S., and the black buoy taken away.

NOTICE is hereby given that on the 1st March, 1911, a buoy will be placed 700 ft. N. 57° W. magnetic from the end of the wharf recently erected by the Golden Bay Cement Works Company at Terakohe, Golden Bay.

Notice as to Statutory Closing-days under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS the Mayors or Chairmen, as the case may be, of the local authorities of the respective separate districts mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto have duly notified me that the days decided on as the statutory closing-days in their respective districts, pursuant to the provisions of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, are the days set opposite their respective names in the second column of the said Schedule :
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said Act, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the statutory closing-days for shops in the said respective separate districts.
