Bonus for Improvements in connection with the Preparation and Utilization of New Zealand Hemp (Phormium tenax).—Notice No. 1588.

WITH reference to the offer of the New Zealand Government to pay a bonus of £12,000 for improvements in connection with the preparation and utilization of New Zealand hemp, the following notice by the New Zealand Flax-millers’ Association conveying the terms of the offer is published for general information.

NOTICE TO INVENTORS, CHEMISTS, AND SCIENTISTS.

Bonus of £12,000 (nearly $60,000) offered.

THE New Zealand Government has agreed to pay £12,000 as a bonus or bonuses for improvements in connection with—

(1.) The extraction and dressing of fibre from the New Zealand hemp-plant (Phormium tenax); or

(2.) The utilization of the by-products obtained during the processes of extracting the fibre,—

on condition that the machine or process in regard to which the whole or any part of the bonus is to be paid shall be recommended by the New Zealand Flax-millers’ Association, and approved by the Government.

The association is accordingly prepared to receive applications for the bonus until 30th November, 1913.
