  1. The lease shall be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee
    shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the said lease
    within thirty days after the date on which the same ought
    to have been fulfilled.

Additional Conditions as to Motuanauru Island.

  1. The lessee will keep and yield up the buildings
    and fences at present erected upon the island in good and
    tenurable condition and repair, excepting depreciation
    from fair wear and tear, weather, or natural causes, without
    neglect of the lessee.

  2. The right is reserved to enter upon and erect at the
    most suitable spot on the said land a monument to the
    memory of Captain Cook, and for that purpose to have
    performed any quarrying or other operations or such acts
    generally as may be necessary in the erection of such a
    structure, and when completed to enclose the same with a
    fence, railing, or wall.

  3. The lessee will insure and keep insured all buildings
    and erections at present existing on the land, in the name
    of His Majesty the King, during the term of the lease in
    some insurance office approved by the Commissioner of
    Crown Lands, such insurance to be the amount of the full
    insurable value, and he will produce and deliver to the
    said Commissioner of Crown Lands the policies of such
    insurance and the receipts for the renewal premiums.

  4. The lessee shall not cut or destroy any tree of a
    diameter of 9 in. or more at a distance of 1½ ft. from the
    ground, and in clearing, scrubbing, or burning any vegetation of a lesser size shall take all reasonable precautions
    to prevent damage or destruction of any trees left standing.

Whangamomona County.—Mahoe Survey District.

Situat ed on the Whangamomona Road. Access is from
Whangamomona, which is about eight miles and three-quarters distant—three miles and a half by dray-road, and
the remainder by 6 ft. track past section. Comprises fairly
steep country at the back, but easier on frontage. The soil
is of fair quality, on a papa formation. The forest is heavy,
consisting of tawa, rata, towhai, rimu, with birch on high
ridges, and a heavy undergrowth. Well watered.

Situated on the Tirohanga Road. Access is from Whangamomona, which is about fifteen miles distant—three miles
and a half by dray-road, ten miles by track, and the balance
unformed road. Comprises steep hillsides flattening off
towards streams, with fairly good ridges. The formation of
the section is sandstone and papa. The forest is fairly
heavy, and consists of towhai, tawa, hinau, &c., with a dense
undergrowth. Well watered.

Comprises medium to rough country, with high ridges and
fairly steep spurs. The soil is of fairly good quality, on a
papa formation. The forest is heavy, consisting of tawa,
rata, rimu, &c., with a heavy undergrowth. Well watered.

is about seven miles and a half distant, four miles of which
is formed dray-road, the balance being formed track. Comprises easy to rough slopes and ridges, with a small portion
of undulating country at the north end. The soil is of good
quality, on a papa and sandstone formation. The forest is
fairly heavy, consisting of tawa, rata, rimu, towhai, &c., with
a medium undergrowth. Well watered.
