RESULT OF POLL FOR PROPOSED LOAN.

I HEREBY notify that at the poll of ratepayers taken on the 29th day of October, 1910, over the whole of the Wairoa Harbour Rating District, on the proposal to borrow £78,000 to carry out harbour-improvement works at the Port of Wairoa, the following votes were recorded: For the proposal, 608; against the proposal, 160; informal, 2. And as the number of valid votes recorded for the proposal is more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

DREDGING SOUTH CHANNEL, PORT PHILLIP.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 69, dated 11th July, 1910, it is hereby notified that the dredger “John Nimmo” will resume dredging operations at the northern edge of the artificial cut of the south channel about Thursday next. The conditions which have been previously observed as to marking the alignment of the work of the dredge by two red-can buoys, and as to the exhibition of two balls by day and two red lights by night to indicate the side of the dredger on which vessels are to pass, also the two white mast-head anchor lights, one near the stem and one near the stern of the dredger, as well as the anchor light on the anchor punt which will be moored in the vicinity of the dredger, will be continued.

Notice to Mariners No. 127 of 1910.

DREDGING IN LYTTLETON HARBOUR.

Wellington, N.Z., 7th November, 1910.

THE Lyttelton Harbour Board have notified that dredging operations will shortly be started in Lyttelton Harbour. The dredging wire is laid on a line from the middle of No. 3 jetty through the middle of the entrance between the mole across the turning basin.
The dredge will start working 500 ft. out from No. 3 jetty forthwith.

Notice to Mariners No. 128 of 1910.

OTAGO LOWER HARBOUR.—MAIN CHANNEL HARRINGTON POINT TO PORT CHALMERS.—NEW LIGHTS ESTABLISHED.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 79 of the 25th July, 1910, it is hereby notified that the seven beacons mentioned therein have been erected, and that on and after the 17th November, 1910, lights will be exhibited therefrom. The starboard beacons will show red lights and the port beacons will show white lights.
Dowling Bay light will be discontinued, and the white lights in the bend south of Harrington Point will be changed to red.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Mines Department,
Wellington, 14th February, 1910.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1911, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1912.
  2. No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.
  3. In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced in New Zealand.

Mines Department,
Wellington, 1st June, 1909.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the production of mineral oil under the following conditions:—

  1. A bonus of 3d. per gallon (£6,250) will be paid on the first 500,000 gallons of mineral oil produced in the Dominion of New Zealand. The mineral oil in the refined state to have a specific gravity of 0·814 to 0·830, and a flash point of not less than 83° Fahr. by the Abel closed test.
  2. Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must be given in writing to the Minister of Mines not later than 31st March, 1912.
  3. The claim must be made before 31st March, 1913.
  4. The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the recipient of the bonus.
  5. All conditions as to quantity, quality, priority, and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed for the purpose by the Government.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of Road in Block VII, Otanake Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 23rd day of August, 1909, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 9th day of July, 1909.
