Opening National Endowment Lands in Taranaki Land District for Selection.
ISLINGTON, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-third day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

Ohura and Whangamomona Counties.—Heao Survey District.

Situated on the Ohura River and Tokirima Road. Access is from Wanganui River, which is about four and a half to five and three-quarter miles distant by walking-track and canoe. Pack-horses can be taken to the ground from either Whangamomona about forty-five miles, Mangaroa about seventeen miles, or Taumarunui about twenty-seven miles distant. The last four or five miles of the horse-track are through Native land. Tokirima Road will be extended from its present terminus to connect with the north-western corner of the block. The sections comprise easy to steep slopes and spurs, with some flat land. A fair proportion of Section No. 15 is ploughable. The soil is of fair to very good quality, on a papa formation. The forest is light, consisting of rimu, tawa, tawhero, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth. Well watered.

Situated on the Tokirima, Opatu, and Koiro Roads. Access is from Wanganui River, which is from four to five miles and a half distant by walking-track and canoe. Access to Section No. 3, Block VII, can be obtained by horse-track from Otuiti Landing on Wanganui River, distant about three miles. Pack-horses can be taken to the ground from either Whangamomona about forty-five miles, Mangaroa about seventeen miles, or Taumarunui about twenty-seven miles distant. Several miles of the latter route are over Native lands. The Tokirima Road will be extended from its present terminus to connect with the north-western corner of the block. The sections comprise partly open flat land and easy to fairly steep slopes and spurs. The soil is of fair to good quality, on a papa formation. The forest varies from very light to fairly heavy, and consists of rata, rimu, white-pine, totara, tawa, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth. Fairly well watered.
Ohura County.—Heao Survey District.

Situated on the Koiro Road. Access is from the Wanganui River, which is about five miles distant by walking-track, canoe, and horse-track. Pack-horses can be taken to the ground from either Whangamomona about forty-five miles, Mangaroa about sixteen miles, or Taumarunui about twenty-six miles distant. The last three or four miles of this horse-track are over Native land. The section comprises easy to steep slopes, with some level ploughable land on the Koiro Road frontage. The soil is of very fair quality, on a papa formation. The forest is very light, consisting of tawa, manuka, tawhero, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth. Well watered.
Whangamomona County.—Heao Survey District.

Situated on the Tokirima Road and Ohura River. Access is from the Wanganui River, which is about three miles dis-
tant by walking-track and canoe. Pack-horses can be taken to the ground from either Whangamomona about forty-seven miles, Mangaroa about eighteen miles, or Taumarunui about twenty-eight miles distant. The horse-track traverses several miles of Native land before this block is reached. The Tokirima Road will be extended from its present terminus to connect with the north-western corner of the block. The section comprises very easy to steeply sloping country. The soil is of very good quality, on a papa formation. The forest is practically all heavy, consisting of rata, rimu, matai, totara, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth. Well watered.

Situated on Opura Road. Access is from Wanganui River, which is about two to three miles and a half distant. Pack-horses can be taken to the ground from either Whangamomona about forty-six miles, Mangaroa about eighteen miles, or Taumarunui about twenty-eight miles distant. Access can also be obtained from Otuiti Landing on the Wanganui River, about three miles and a half distant. The sections comprise easy to steep slopes and spurs. The soil is of fair to good quality, on a papa formation. The forest varies from fairly light to heavy, consisting of rata, rimu, totara, tawa, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth. Well watered.
Whangamomona County.—Heao Survey District.

Situated on the Tokirima Road and Ohura River. Access is from Wanganui River, which is about one mile and a half distant via the Ohura River. A canoe can be taken to the section from above the falls, which are about a quarter of a mile from the Wanganui River by walking-track. The Tokirima Road will be extended from its present terminus to connect with the north-western corner of the block. The section comprises fairly steep slopes and spurs, with a fair building-site on the road-frontage. The soil is of fair to good quality, on a papa formation. The forest is fairly heavy, consisting of rata, rimu, matai, totara, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth. Well watered.

Authorizing Native Owners to lease Native Land.
ISLINGTON, Governor.
IN exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by subsection (b) of section fifteen of the Maori Land Laws Amendment Act, 1908, and acting on the recommendation of the Wairiki District Maori Land Board, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby authorize the Native proprietors of the undermentioned land to lease the same, subject to the conditions that the provisions of the Native Land Act, 1909, as to leasing are complied with.
