Altitude, from 250 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Open land, covered with fern, manuka, and tutu; two-thirds undulating and flat, remainder hilly but not rough; intersected by several small swamps and swampy streams. Soil of fairly good quality on sandstone formation; fairly well watered. Distant about seven miles from either Kawa Railway-station or Kihikihi, four miles and a half of which is formed road, and three miles surveyed road not yet formed, but with a fairly good wagon-track following the general route of the road and giving temporary access.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-eighth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and ten.

Opening Land in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.


ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and ten; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Moderately broken land, the greater part being covered with forest, chiefly towai, with undergrowth of supplejack scrub. There is some open land along the eastern side of the block partly grassed, and partly covered with fern and tussock. Soil of fair quality, though light, on pumice formation; fairly well watered. Distant from ten to twelve miles from Rangitaiki Accommodation-house—seven miles by good dray-road, balance by track.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.

Undulating, but somewhat rough at south end of section; covered with mixed forest, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, and thick undergrowth of scrub; 15 acres of bush previously felled and now back to scrub. Soil of good quality, of a sandy nature on pumice formation; indifferently watered. Fronts Akeake Road, about four miles from Ngawaro Post-office by formed road.

ROTORUA COUNTY.—OTANEWAINUKU SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, from 700 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Generally undulating land; broken along Rerenga and Whataroa Streams; all covered with mixed forest, comprising tawa, rimu, rata, mangeao, rewarewa, pukatea, and hinau, with thick undergrowth of supplejack and scrub. Soil of good quality, of a sandy nature on decomposed-pumice formation; watered by Rerenga Stream. Distant about six miles from Ngawaro Post-office by fair formed road.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-eighth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and ten.
