Approving and Appointing a Bonding Warehouse.
CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by the Customs Law Act, 1908, I, the
Minister of Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the
undermentioned warehouse to be a warehouse for the re-
ception of goods under bond, namely,
Port of New Plymouth.
Part of ground floor of a brick building situate on Sec-
tions 14 and 15, St. Aubyn Street, New Plymouth, to be
known as
NEW ZEALAND EXPRESS COMPANY'S BOND.

By-laws regulating Traffic on the Kawhia to Pirongia
Road.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred
upon me by section 139 of the Public Works Act,
1908, I, Roderick McKenzie, the Minister of Public
Works, do, in respect of the Kawhia-Pirongia Road de-
scribed in the Schedule hereto, which was declared to be a
Government road by an Order in Council dated the 29th
day of August, 1910, and published in the New Zealand
Gazette of the Ist day of September, 1910, page 3300,
hereby make the following by-laws :—

The use of bullocks as traction animals on the said
road is prohibited for the period from lst May to lst
November in any year. -
The haulage or transportation on the said road of
any vehicle, engine, or machine coming under the definition
of "heavy traffic" within the meaning of paragraph (a)
of subsection (1) of section 139 of the Public Works Act,
1908, during the months of May, June, July, August, and
September in any year shall cease.
"Heavy traffic" is defined in the section above referred
to to be the transportation of any vehicle, engine, or
machine which itself, or together with any thing or things
being transported thereon, weighs more than one ton and
a half avoirdupois to each pair of wheels.
- The width of tires of all vehicles upon the said road,
whether plying for hire or not, shall bear the following
proportion to the number of animals employed to draw the
same, that is to say :—

No more than eight bullocks shall be used at any one
time as traction animals to any vehicle having two wheels,
nor more than twelve bullocks as traction animals to any
vehicle having four wheels.

I do hereby prescribe that the weight of timber
carried on any vehicle subject to these by-laws shall be
ascertained by measurement at the rate of 600 sup. feet of
timber to the ton weight avoirdupois; and I do further
prescribe that the manner of ascertaining the weight of
the following articles shall be by computation according
to the following scale :-
Wheat, 12 bags of 3⅓ bushels to 1 ton weight avoi-
dupois.
Barley, 12 bags of 4 bushels to 1 ton weight avoi-
dupois.
Oats, 14 bags of 4 bushels to 1 ton weight avoirdupois. -
The driver of any vehicle or machine shall, at the
verbal request of any person authorized by me, stop such
vehicle or machine, and shall give such information as to
the load thereon or contents thereof, and as to the quan-
tity, weight, size, or measurement of same, as such person
shall require for the purpose of ascertaining such quantity,
weight, size, or measurement. -
If any person commits a breach of any of the fore-
going by-laws he shall be liable, upon conviction for such
breach, to a penalty of £5, provided that the Court before
which proceedings may be taken in respect of such breach
may, if it thinks fit, impose such lower penalty as it thinks
adequate to the particular case.
SCHEDULE.
All that Government road situated in the Auckland Land
District, Kawhia and Waitomo Counties, and known as
the Pirongia-Kawhia Road, commencing at the northern
boundary of the Te Puru Native Township, and proceed-
ing thence in a northerly and then easterly direction
generally through Blocks X, VI, VII, XI, and XII,
Kawhia North Survey District; thence in a north-easterly,
then south-easterly, and again north-easterly direction
generally through Blocks IX, X, XI, VII, and VIII,
Pirongia Survey District, to its junction with the Puniu
River at the southern boundary of the Township of
Pirongia, being a distance of 35 miles, more or less : as
the said road is more particularly delineated on the plan
marked P.W.D. 25938, deposited in the office of the
Minister of Public Works, at Wellington, in the Welling-
ton Provincial District, and thereon shown in red colour.
As witness my hand, this nineteenth day of September,
one thousand nine hundred and ten.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block III, Cobden
Survey District, Grey County, for Road Purposes.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute
a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road in
Block III, Cobden Survey District, and for the purposes of
such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto
is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given
that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited
in the post-office at Runanga, and is there open for in-
spection ; and that all persons affected by the execution of
the said public work or by the taking of the said land should,
if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of
the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth
the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty
days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister
of Public Works, at Wellington.
