NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for selection on renewable lease, and applications will be received at this office, and at the local Lands Office, Gisborne, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 14th day of March, 1910, under the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908,” and “The Land for Settlements Act, 1908.”

HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—COOK COUNTY.—WAIKOHU SURVEY DISTRICT.—NGATAPA SETTLEMENT.

Second-class Land.

Section 1. Hilly pastoral country, in grass. About 80 acres agricultural. Soil fair to good, on clay subsoil; flats wet, but easily drained. Situated about twenty-four miles from Gisborne—twenty-three miles dray-road, one mile not formed. The improvements that go with the land consist of 61 chains fencing, valued at £24 5s.

Section 4. Hilly pastoral country, in grass. About 16 acres flat. Soil over a small portion not very good, rest fair. Frontage to Gisborne—Wharekopae Road, twenty-three miles from Gisborne. The improvements that go with the land comprise 68 chains fencing, valued at £34.

Hilly pastoral country, in grass. From 80 to 100 acres ploughable. North end of section soil inferior; southern end fair to very good. Generally the soil on the western half is of light and pumicey quality, on white clay, but that of the eastern part is good. Fairly well grassed with native and English grasses. Permanent water in the Taumatapoupou Creek. Distant about twenty miles and a half from Gisborne by coach-road. The improvements that go with the land comprise 306 chains fencing, valued at £129 10s.

Agricultural and pastoral land, comprising steep and broken faces in the northern half, with easy slopes, and about 70 acres of arable downs and 36 acres flats, party swampy and liable to flood in the south. Mostly manuka country, broken in and grassed last season in English grass. Fair soil, showing pumice in places. Formation papa and sandstone. A small patch of kahikatea bush near the south-east corner. Fairly well watered. Distant about eighteen miles from Gisborne by coach-road. The improvements that go with the land comprise 293 chains fencing, valued at £136 5s.

Well grassed with English and native grasses. Good soil, papa and clay formation. Small patches of bush and light scrub, with about 17 acres of kahikatea bush and plantations. Lawn and garden around the homestead, and metalled drive. Distant about seventeen miles and a half from Gisborne by coach-road. The improvements that go with the land comprise 347 chains of fencing, valued at £137 12s. 6d. The improvements which do not go with the land comprise dwelling-house of twelve rooms and outbuildings, valued at £1,200; a three-roomed cottage, valued at £125; a stable with four stalls, two loose boxes, harness, buggy-room, and loft, valued at £125; and a 20,000-gallon concrete tank, valued at £100: total value, £1,550.
