THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Department of Navigation, Sydney, and the Chief Harbourmaster, Fremantle, are published for general information.

NEW SOUTH WALES.
It is hereby notified, for general information that on and after the 1st January, 1910, the tide-signals exhibited from the Pilot-station, Newcastle, will indicate the actual depth of water on the bar.
The notice of the 26th April, 1909, is hereby withdrawn.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA.—NORTH WEST COAST.
Notice is hereby given that on and after the 13th December, 1909, an unattended, dioptric, fixed, occulting light of the fourth order will be exhibited from a steel tower (open braced) erected on centre of Bedout Island, lat. 19° 35′ south, long. 119° 6′ east, the height of the focal plane above high water being 66 ft., and visible in clear weather about fourteen miles.
Special attention is drawn to the fact that the light is unwatched, and therefore shipmasters are cautioned against placing too much reliance on same.
Charts affected: No. 1055, Bedout Island to Cape Cuvier; No. 1048, Buccaneer Archipelago to Bedout.

Notice to Mariners No. 6 of 1910.
NEW HEBRIDES.—LIGHT AT VILA (OR FILA) HARBOUR.

Wellington, N.Z., 19th January, 1910.
A COMMUNICATION has been received from the Resident Commissioner, British Residency, Vila (or Fila), stating that on and after the 1st January, 1910, in addition to the present leading-lights, an all-round fixed green light, visible about three miles on a dark, clear night, will be exhibited in Vila (or Fila) Harbour at the N.W. corner of Iririki Island, lat. 17° 44′ 37″ S., long. 168° 18′ 38″ E. The light will be on a wooden pyramidal structure about 10 ft. high, or about 16 ft. above high water.

Notice to Mariners No. 7 of 1910.
LIGHTHOUSE AT CAPE BRETT.

Wellington, N.Z., 24th January, 1910.
WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 95 of the 11th November, 1909, notice is hereby given that on and after the night of Monday, the 21st February, 1910, a light will be exhibited from the tower which has been erected on Cape Brett, the south-eastern point of the Bay of Islands, in lat. 35° 11′ S., and long. 174° 21′ E. (approximate). The light will be a group-flashing white one of the first order, with two flashes in quick succession every half-minute. The focal plane of the light will be 510 ft. above high water, and it should be visible, except when obscured by the land, over an arc of 240° for a distance of thirty miles and a half.

New Zealand Government Railways.—By-law forbidding the Conveyance of Alcoholic and Fermented Liquor by Railway into the Rohe Potae District, better known as “The King-country.”
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by “The Government Railways Act, 1908,” I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Railways, do hereby repeal By-law No. 60 of the by-laws dated the twenty-ninth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nine, and gazetted on the tenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nine, which by-law prohibited the conveyance of alcoholic or fermented liquor by railway into the Rohe Potae District, better known as “The King-country.”

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks VIII and XII, Thames Survey District, Thames County, for Road Purposes.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road in Blocks VIII and XII, Thames Survey District, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Thames, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.
