a written or printed description of such engine, together with
the owner’s name and address, in the form given in Schedule
A, or to the effect thereof, signed by the applicant, and pay-
ing a fee of £1; and such owner, or the person making the
application on his behalf, shall thereupon be entitled to
receive from the said Clerk a certificate of registration of
such engine, which may be in the form given in Schedule B,
or to the effect thereof, and shall remain in force until the
31st day of December then next ensuing. In the event of a
traction-engine being first brought into use in the district
after the 30th day of June in any year, the owner shall forth-
with register the same in manner aforesaid, but the fee
payable for the registration in respect of the then current
year shall be 10s. only. Every change of ownership of any
traction-engine travelling within the district shall be forth-
with notified to the said Clerk by the new owner thereof, who
shall also pay a fee of 1s., and the said Clerk shall thereupon
indorse upon the existing certificate of registration of the
engine a notification of the change of ownership.

The Clerk of the Ellesmere Road Board for the time
being shall keep a register-book, in which he shall enter, or
cause to be entered, particulars of the registration or change
of ownership of every traction-engine registered with him
under the preceding by-law. -
Nothing herein contained shall be held to relieve any
person owning or using a traction-engine from liability in
respect of any injury done or damage sustained by the
traction of excessive weight over or along any bridge, culvert
or road.
Any person who shall commit a breach of or fail to comply
with any of these by-laws shall for every such offence be
liable to a penalty not exceeding £5.

The foregoing by-laws were passed by the Ellesmere Road
Board at a special meeting held on Monday, the 6th day of
December, 1909, and confirmed at a further meeting held on
Monday, the 10th day of January, 1910.
These by-laws shall come into force within the Ellesmere
Road District as soon as they shall have been gazetted.
The seal of the inhabitants of the Ellesmere Road Board
District was affixed to this special order and by-law, this
10th day of January, 1910.

THE following special order, made by the Tataraimaka
Road Board, is published in accordance with the pro-
visions of “The Road Boards Act, 1908.”

TATARAIMAKA ROAD BOARD.
Special Order levying Special Rate.
RESOLVED, That, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act,
1908,” the Tataraimaka Road Board hereby resolves as follows:
That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other
charges on a loan of £150 (being 10 percent. of the amount of
the original loan of £1,500), authorised to be raised by the
Tataraimaka Road Board, under the above-mentioned Act,
for the purpose of metalling the Upper Pitone Road for a
further distance of 19 chains, the said Tataraimaka Road
Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of ½d. in the
pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the
Pitone Road Special-rating District, comprising Sections 17,
part 13, 23, 12, 105, part 116, Block II, Cape; Sections 101,
102, 103, 104, 113, 114, 115, 118, 119, 120, part 121, 123, 124,
125, part 126, part 127, 129, 130, 131, part 132, 134, 135,
part 136, 138, 139, part 140, 143, 144, 145, 146, 148, 149, 150,
of Block VI, Cape; Subsections 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, of Section 168,
Sections 5, 8, part 11, part 12, 13, part 3, part 14, of Block
VII, Cape; and part 4 of Block XI, Cape, and in the Survey
District of Taranaki: and that such special rate shall be an
annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and
be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of January and the
1st day of July in each and every year during the currency
of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the
loan is fully paid off.

WHANGAREI COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Order.
SPECIAL order of the body corporate known as and called
“The Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County
of Whangarei,” passed at a special meeting of the Whangarei
County Council on the 24th day of November, 1909, and con-
firmed on the 19th day of January, 1910, namely,—
That the prayer of the ratepayers signing the petition
this day presented to the Council, that the Maunu Road
Board be dissolved, and that the Maunu Road District be
merged in the County of Whangarei, and that such disso-
lution and merger take effect on the 31st day of January,
1910.
The common seal of the said body corporate was hereto
affixed and impressed at a meeting of the Council thereof
held on the 19th day of January, 1910, in the presence of—
