No. 27714.—11th May, 1910.—The BUTTERS PATENT VACUUM FILTER COMPANY, INCORPORATED, a corporation of the State of Nevada, United States of America, Manufacturers, having offices and doing business at Virginia City, Nevada, United States of America (assignees of Clarence G. Patterson, a citizen of the United States of America, Engineer and Inventor, residing at Berkeley, California, United States of America). Improvements in filters for metallurgical and other uses.
Claims.—(1.) In a filter, a tubular septum, having an interior expansible and collapsible form. (2.) A filter or filter unit, comprising a septum, and a form for carrying it embodying means for stretching it while upon the form. (3.) A filter-leaf comprising one or more panels, each comprising a plurality of filtering units detachably held together.

No. 27727.—15th June, 1909.—JOHN GRAHAM STEWART, of 41 Oswald Street, Glasgow, Scotland, Director. Improvement in the jointing of pipes and the like.

Claims.—(1.) The combination with a main pipe having an orifice, of a flanged tube having external screw-threads, said tube fitted within said orifice, a nut in screw-threaded engagement with said tube, a washer interposed between said nut and said main pipe, packing between the washer and the main pipe, and between the nut and the washer, and a branch connection fitted to said tube. (2.) The combination with the main pipe 2 of the tube 4, the nut 10, the washer 6, the packing-rings 9 and 11, and the connecting-tube 12, substantially as described.

No. 27728.—18th September, 1909.—STEWARTS AND LLOYDS, LIMITED, of Clyde Tube Works, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland, Tube-manufacturers, and ROBERT BALLANTYNE, of 41 Oswald Street, Glasgow, Scotland, Director of said company. Improvements in and in the fitting of branch service-connections to main pipes.

Claims.—(1.) The combination with a main pipe having an orifice, of a nipple which is tapered or one end of which is expanded or flared or thickened and which enters said orifice, a washer partly pressed between the end of the nipple and the inner face of the surface main, a nut in screw-threaded engagement with the nipple, and a distance-piece interposed between said nut and said washer. (2.) The improved method of fitting branch service-connections to mains, substantially as described.

No. 27733.—14th May, 1910.—GEORGE JOSIAH BERTINSHAW, of South Terrace, Kelburne, Wellington, New Zealand, Ferro-concrete Specialist. Improvements in the construction of ferro-concrete poles.
Claims.—(1.) In the construction of ferro-concrete poles, bracing longitudinal rods by wires zigzagged around each pair of rods and passed alternately over and under the rods, other wires zigzagged in a direction opposite to the first wires, and circumferential wires surrounding the rods and gripped by the zigzag wires, substantially as set forth.

No. 27739.—17th May, 1910.—HENRY MARK LEVINGE, of Okato, Taranaki, New Zealand, Medical Practitioner. An improved apparatus for conveying meals and the like to a dining-table.
Extract from Specification.—An overhead carriage runs upon a wire rope and has suspended upon it a dumb waiter of special construction, upon which the articles to be carried are placed. The dumb waiter fits within a safe, and the carriage is operated by ropes.

Claims.—(1.) A mausoleum comprising an enclosed receiving-crypt provided with an outlet-opening and an inlet-opening, an upper air-space communicating with the atmosphere, a lower air-space communicating with the atmosphere, and ducts connecting respectively with said inlet and outlet openings, and forming the sole communication between said upper and lower air-spaces whereby a natural draught is provided.

Extract from Specification.—A strainer-chamber is provided into which petrol is fed from a supply-tank and caused to pass through a gauze strainer; a drain-valve is fitted at the bottom of the chamber through which water and solid matter can be drawn off; an engine feed-pipe is provided and a stop-valve for regulating the supply, while to the top part of the chamber a gauge-glass is fitted, suitably encased.

Claims.—(1.) The shaping the centre-piece solid and as specified, and fitting it within the curled inner end of the cane or bamboo in the manner and for the purpose set forth as described and illustrated.
