THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is published for general information.

GULF OF ST. VINCENT.—ENTRANCE TO PORT ADELAIDE.—NO. 1 LEAD.
MASTERS of vessels, pilots, and others are hereby informed that on and after the 1st July, 1910, the double vertical lights of No. 1 lead will be discontinued, and single white and single red lights substituted therefor.
These lights or beacons in line lead through the centre of the 400 ft. cutting, the line of bearing being N. 55° E. and S. 55° W.
This affects Admiralty Charts 2389A and 2389B, 1750, and 1752.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA.—SOUTH COAST.
NOTICE is hereby given that the position of the uncharted rock struck by the steamship “Pericles,” off Cape Leeuwin, is approximately as follows :—
Lighthouse bearing N. 2° W. (magnetic), distant 7 miles. Latitude, 34° 28′ 50″ south; longitude, 115° 9′ 5″ east.
Depth of water over rock, about 24 ft.
The wreck lies in 16 fathoms of water, with from two to three fathoms over her spars. The lighthouse bearing N. 3° W. (magnetic), distant 27 miles. Latitude, 34° 24′ 35″ south; longitude, 115° 8′ 10″ east.
Charts affected: No. 1034, Cape Naturaliste to King George Sound; No. 1037, Flinders Bay; No. 413, Cape Mentelle to White Point.

PORT OF GEELONG (HOPETOUN CHANNEL).
PILOTS, exempt masters, and others are hereby notified that the dredger “Thomas Bent” will, on or about 11th instant, resume dredging operations at the eastern end of the Hopetoun Channel and work to the westward.
Vessels navigating the channel must pass the dredger on the side upon which the following signals will be exhibited, viz. :—
During daytime, a basket ball.
During night-time, two red lights in a vertical position not less than 6 ft. apart.
Two anchor lights will also be exhibited at night, one at the stem and one at the stern.
When a vessel is about to pass, when not at work, and during the night the dredger will be hove as close as practicable to a side of the channel.
Caution.
The pilot or master of every steam-vessel must at least 200 yards from the dredger cause the engines of the vessel to be put at “dead slow,” and prior to passing over or along the mooring-chains thereof or any work in progress must stop the engines and keep them stopped whilst passing.

SPENCER GULF.—PORT PIRIE RIVER.
MASTERS of vessels and others are hereby informed that, owing to the progress of deepening operations, it is necessary to remove No. 10 leading beacon, Port Pirie River, about 70 ft. to the westward.
Until the beacon is permanently fixed in its new position, the red light of No. 10 beacon will be exhibited from the dredger working on the spot.
This affects Admiralty Chart No. 2389B and Plan 403.

GULF ST. VINCENT.—ENTRANCE TO PORT ADELAIDE RIVER.
NOTICE is hereby given that after the night of Sunday, 1st May, the fifth-order light which is at present exhibited from the highest point of the structure of the old lighthouse will be discontinued, and the position of the structure thereafter will be marked by an ordinary riding light. Approximate position—lat. 34° 48′ S., long. 138° 28′ E.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389B, 1750, and 1752.

Notice to Mariners No. 55 of 1910.
DREDGING OPERATIONS IN OAMARU HARBOUR.

Wellington, N.Z., 23rd May, 1910.
THE Oamaru Harbour Board have notified that a dredge-mooring has been laid 600 ft. N.E. ½ E. (magnetic) from the end of the Oamaru Breakwater, and is marked by a black buoy. Vessels in passing should give the buoy a berth of at least 150 ft.

Engine-driver disqualified.
Inspection of Machinery Department,
Wellington, 25th May, 1910.
IN pursuance of the powers conferred on me by section 50 of the Inspection of Machinery Act, 1908, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister in charge of the Inspection of Machinery Department, having received from the Board of Examiners constituted under section 48 of the said Act a report on a collision which occurred on 7th March, 1910, between two locomotives on the Waihi Gold-mining Company’s private line at Waihi owing to the failure of Charles Milne, the driver of one of the said locomotives, to pick up the “running staff” at the crossing, do hereby disqualify the said Charles Milne from holding Engine-driver’s Certificate of Service No. 318, issued to him by the said Board on 21st December, 1895, and authorising him to act as driver of locomotive and traction engines, such disqualification to continue for a period of three calendar months from the date of the accident; and during this period of disqualification he shall be deemed not to be the holder of the certificate.
