duty, viz.: Insubordination, neglect or disobedience of
orders, or taking intoxicants without permission of the
officer in charge; and any such member will forfeit any
pay which may then be due to him. Every case of dis-
missal shall be brought before the Board at its first
meeting after the dismissal.

In the absence of the Superintendent at any fire the
Deputy Superintendent shall assume command, and in the
absence of both the Superintendent and Deputy Superin-
tendent the senior foreman in charge shall have all powers
and duties conferred and imposed on the Superintendent. -
On the first alarm of fire, night or day, members are
to turn out as far as possible in uniform, with the reel and
every appliance in good order, and proceed to the locality
with all possible speed for the purpose of extinguishing it. -
If the Board so decide, any member absenting him-
self, without the leave of the Superintendent, from any
fires or alarms may be fined 2s. 6d. for the first absence,
5s. for the second, and on the third consecutive absence be
dismissed and forfeit any pay which may then be due to
him. -
No member, under any pretence whatever, is per-
mitted to leave the locality of a fire without the permission
or instruction of the officer in charge of the fire. -
Unless otherwise provided, one calendar month's
notice in writing on either side shall terminate this agree-
ment. Notices may be given to or by the Superintendent. -
Every member will be required to attend one drill
per month. -
Any member being desirous of absenting himself
from the district for any reason must first obtain leave
from the Superintendent, and, should it be considered
necessary, the member must provide a substitute during
such absence, and payment of the substitute must be made
by the member. -
The Superintendent shall have the sole discretion
as to the number of men to whom leave may be granted
at any time.
PART VIII.
Gratuities for Voluntary Services.
Members of the brigade will be paid for attendance at
fires in accordance with the following Schedule:—
(1.) Firemen to receive pay at the rate of 2s. per hour
or any part of an hour.
(2.) False alarms and chimney or other fires, when
not required to leave the station, the rate of
pay shall be 1s. per man.

The sum of 15s. per annum (payable half-yearly on
30th June and 31st December in each year) will be paid
as boot allowance to the members who have been at least
six months in the brigade and who have attended at least
two-thirds of the musters during each half-yearly period. -
Members of the Fire Police and Salvage Corps will
be paid for attendance at fires in accordance with the
following Schedule:—
(1.) Fire Police to receive the sum of 1s. 3d. per hour
or any part of an hour.
(2.) False alarms and chimney or other fires, when
not required to leave the station, the rate of pay
shall be 1s. per man. -
Members of the Fire Police and Salvage Corps will
not be allowed any boot allowance under any of these by-
laws.

The foregoing by-laws were made by the Feilding Fire
Board at a duly constituted meeting of the said Board
held on the 12th day of January, 1910, submitted to the
Minister charged for the time being with the administra-
tion of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and approved of
by him on the 29th day of April, 1910, and gazetted on
the 5th day of May, 1910.
Holiday to be observed on 24th May, Empire Day.

Fixing Date on which certain Returns under the Fire Brigades
Act, 1908, are to be furnished.

PURSUANT to section 22 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908,
it is hereby notified that the returns showing the
total gross amount of the premiums received by or due to
fire-insurance companies during the year ended 31st Decem-
ber, 1909, shall be transmitted to the Fire Boards concerned,
in the manner prescribed by the said section, on or before
the 31st day of May, 1910.

Special Order made by the Parihaka Road Board,
County of Egmont.

THE following special order, made by the Parihaka
Road Board, is published in accordance with the pro-
visions of the Road Boards Act, 1908.

PARIHAKA ROAD DISTRICT.
Special Order.—Ihaia Road No. 3 Loan, £450.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in
that behalf by the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1908, the
Parihaka Road Board hereby resolves as follows: That, for
the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on
a loan of £450, authorised to be raised, under the above-
named Act, for the purpose to form, drain, and culvert the
Ihaia Road for about 90 chains up from the Wiremu Road,
the said Parihaka Road Board hereby makes and levies a
special rate of ¾d. in the pound on the rateable value of
all the rateable property in the Ihaia Road Loan No. 3
Special-rating Area, comprising Sections 1A, 2, 32, 34, 36,
Block IV, and 16, 19, 27, 29, Block VIII, Opunake Survey
District, in the Opuā Ward of the said Parihaka Road
District; and that such rate shall be an annual-recurring
rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly
on the 1st day of January in each and every year during the
currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or
until the loan is fully paid off.
I hereby certify that this special order was duly passed
in accordance with the Road Boards Act, 1908.

Special Order.
THE Templeton Road Board, in pursuance of the Noxious
Weeds Act, 1908, hereby declares, by way of special order,
that gorse (Ulex europæus) and broom (Cytisus scoparius)
are noxious weeds within the Templeton Road District.
I, Frederick James Carr, Chairman of the Templeton
Road Board, hereby certify that the foregoing is a true
copy of a resolution passed by the Templeton Road Board at
a special meeting on the 7th day of February, 1910, and duly
confirmed on the 7th day of March, 1910, and in accordance
with the Road Boards Act, 1908.
