Notice to Mariners No. 38 of 1910.
CORRECTIONS TO BE MADE IN “NEW ZEALAND PILOT,”
EIGHTH EDITION, 1908.

CAPTAIN BOLLONS, of the Government s.s. “Hinemoa,”
points out that the following corrections should be
made in the “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908,
viz.:
On page 180 under heading “Kainoki Rock” should read
“Buoy.” A red cask buoy, not spar buoy, marks the rock.
Page 193. Hapuka Reef: Beacon mentioned as marking
reef has been away for some time and not re-established.
Page 223. Aotea Harbour: Beacons mentioned on south
side of the river have been burnt down and not re-
established.
Page 279. Murray River: Native settlement has been
abandoned.
Page 283. Port Adventure: Native village abandoned.
Page 304. Resolution Island: Resident Government
Official dispensed with.
Page 307. Omapere Rock: This rock is marked by a black
cask buoy.
Page 314. Milford Sound: Mooring-buoy is the property
of the New Zealand Government, not as stated belonging to
the Union Steamship Company.

AFRICA.
CAPE AGULHAS LT.—About 25th February, 1910, this F.
white lt., 34° 49¾′ S., 20° 0¾′ E., was to be replaced by a fl.
white lt. every 3 secs.—fl. ¼ sec.; ecl. 2¾ secs.; elev. 128 ft.

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.
SINGAPORE MAIN STRAIT.—BULAN ARCHIP.—(a.) A reef,
about 2 cables in extent, which dries, exists in 1° 2¾′ N.,
103° 44¾′ E., N.-wrd. of Steep Cape. (b.) A reef, about
2 cables in extent, which dries, exists in 1° 4¾′ N., 103° 47′ E.,
srd. of Little Ganymedes Isls. (c.) A reef, carrying 2½ fms.,
exists in 1° 8′ N., 103° 48¾′ E., 8¾ cables W. from summit of
Pulo Nérup. Foul ground extends from the above position
to Pulo Nérup. The drying reef nrd. of the isl. extends 2½
cables. March.
CHINA SEA, ETC.
SAM SA INLET APPROACH.—Spider Isl. Lt.-h. is in
26° 31′ 2″ N., 120° 4′ 5″ E., on Chart No. 1988, 4¼ cables
S. 9° W. from its charted position. The islet on which the
lt.-h. is at present shown on the charts does not exist, and
in place of the penin. charted on the N.-ern side of Spider
Islet there are 3 islets, on the srn. of which the lt.-h. is
situated. A new edition of Chart No. 1988, showing these
amendments, is shortly to be published. March.
BULLOCK HARB. APPROACH.—A rk. carrying about 2
fms., with 7 fms. close around, exists in 27° 44¼′ N.,
121° 5′ E., 1⅕ miles N. 68° W. from Rocky Islet. This rk.
was found during a search for the danger, marked by
breakers, recently reported about ⅓ mile nrd. from this posi-
tion. The latter danger has been expunged from the charts.

YANG TSE KIANG ENTR.—There is less water in the vicinity
of Shaweishan Isl. (31° 25¼′ N., 122° 13¾′ E.) than is at pre-
sent charted. Vessels passing wrd. and nrd. of Shaweishan
on the customary courses may find only 13 ft.; vessels passing
within 1 mile to the srd. of Shaweishan may get into 15 ft.,
whilst at 2 miles to the srd. of the isl. the depth is from
17 ft. to 18 ft. An exam. of the locality is to be made.

Tsung ming Crossing is shoaling, and there is now only
13 ft. at L.W. in the neighbourhood of the second crossing-
buoy (31° 27¾′ N., 121° 32′ E.). March.
AUSTRALIA.
PORT PHILLIP.—The fog-sig. and tidal sigs. at S. Chan.
Lt.-h. (38° 20′ S., 144° 51′ E.) are disc., as the lt. is now
(unwatched) March.
LONSDALE BIGHT.—The front [leading-beacon is a white
triangle surm. by a disc, in 38° 16¼′ S., 144° 37¼′ E. The
rear beacon is an inverted triangle, black with white vert.

TASMANIA.
BASS STRAIT.—BANKS STRAIT APPROACH.—The s.s.
“Papanui” reports having struck on a shoal in 40° 43′ S.,
147° 35′ E., wrn. approach to the strait. Breakers are re-
ported to have been seen, in heavy weather, erd. of this
position. An exam. of the locality is to be made. March.
PACIFIC OCEAN.
NEW HEBRIDES.—EFATE (SANDWICH) ISL.—FILA HARB.—
A F. green lt., elev. 16 ft., R. 3 miles, is exh. from a white
pyra. 10 ft. high, in 17° 44½′ S., 168° 18½′ E., on N.-wrn. coast
of Iririki Isl., ⅕ cable N. 51° W. from the Flagstaff. March.

SUMATRA.
EAST COAST.—RHIO STRAIT.—WRECK NO LONGER A
MENACE.—WATCH-VESSEL WITHDRAWN.—Referring to Notice
to Mariners No. 2 (73) of 1910, further information has been
received that the wreck of the French steamer “La Seyne,”
sunk in Rhio Strait, has a least depth of 6½ fathoms over it
and is no longer a menace to navigation.
The watch-vessel established to mark the wreck has been
withdrawn.
Approx. position: Lat. 1° 01′ 48″ N., long. 104° 12′ 00″ E.
(See Notice to Mariners No. 6 (288) of 1910.)
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
OAHU.—HONOLULU HARBOUR.—BUOY REPLACED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 5 (235) of 1910, further
notice is given that on 29th January, 1910, channel buoy
No. 9, Honolulu Harbour, Hawaiian Islands, was replaced on
its station.
Notice fixing Closing-hours of Cycle-trade Shops in the
Borough of Palmerston North under the Shops and Offices
Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of shops in the cycle trade in the
Borough of Palmerston North, has been forwarded to me,
desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed
in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tues-
days, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 o’clock p.m.: And
whereas the Palmerston North Borough Council has certi-
fied that the signatures to such requisition represent a
majority of the occupiers of all the cycle-trade shops in the
Borough of Palmerston North:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of
Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices
Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that, from and after the 2nd
day of May, 1910, all such shops in the Borough of Pal-
merston North shall be closed in accordance with such
requisition.
