KOWAI BUSH RIDING.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded towards the north-west by Cass Riding, hereinbefore described, from the southernmost end of Lake Lyndon to the middle of the Waimakariri River; thence towards the east generally by Ashley and Selwyn Counties to the middle of the Kowai River; thence towards the south generally by a line along the middle of that river to a point in line with the western boundary of Rural Section No. 3712; thence by a right line to the north-western corner of that section; thence by Rural Sections Nos. 3712 and 23409 to the northernmost corner of Rural Section No. 22621; thence by the south-eastern boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 37075 and 24288 to the River Selwyn; thence by that river westward to the county boundary; and thence towards the south-west by Selwyn County to the place of commencement.

SPRINGFIELD RIDING.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded towards the north generally by Kowai Bush Riding hereinbefore described; and towards the north-east and south generally by Selwyn County.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this nineteenth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ten.

New County of Waimairi divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1908,” and “The Waimairi County Act, 1909,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of Waimairi, as constituted by the said Acts, into nine ridings, to be called the Styx Riding, the Belfast Riding, the Marshland Riding, the Avon Riding, the Papanui Riding, the Harewood Riding, the Fendalton Riding, the Middleton Riding, and the Riccarton Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto:

And I do hereby declare that one member shall be elected for each of the aforesaid ridings. And I do further declare that Thursday, the twelfth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and ten, shall be the day upon which the election of the first Council of the said County of Waimairi shall take place, and that Tuesday, the seventeenth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at eight o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the Avon Road Board Office, Marshland, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the said Council shall be held.


SCHEDULE.

STYX RIDING.

Bounded by a line commencing at a point on the north-western boundary of Waimairi County in line with the middle line of Lang’s Ford Road; thence north-easterly and easterly along the boundary of the said Waimairi County to the sea; thence southerly along the sea-shore to the Borough of New Brighton; thence westerly and southerly along the boundary of that borough to the Avon River; thence generally westerly along the left bank of that river to a point in line with the middle of Brigg’s Road; thence to and along the middle of that road to a point in line with the western boundary of Rural Section No. 1053; thence northerly to and along the western boundary of the said Section No. 1053, and along the middle of Banks and Cemetery Roads to Bottle Lake Road; thence along the middle of the last-mentioned road to Preston’s Road; thence westerly along the middle of Preston’s Road to North Road; thence northerly along the middle of North Road to the middle of the River Styx; thence generally easterly along the middle of that river to its confluence with the Kaputone Creek; thence generally northerly along the middle of that creek to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Rural Section No. 419; thence to and along the said south-western boundary and its production to the middle of North Road; thence along the middle of North Road to Lang’s Ford Road; and thence along the middle of the last-mentioned road and its production to the place of commencement.

BELFAST RIDING.

Bounded by a line commencing at a point on the north-western boundary of Waimairi County in line with the middle line of Lang’s Ford Road; thence south-easterly, southerly, and westerly along the boundary of Styx Riding hereinbefore described to the intersection of the River Styx with the middle of North Road; thence northerly along the middle of North Road to Englefield Road; thence generally westerly along the middle of the last-mentioned road to Rural Section No. 806; thence along the eastern boundary of that section to Tisch’s Road; thence along the middle of that road to the road forming the western boundary of Rural Section No. 848; thence northerly along the middle of the last-mentioned road to a point in line with the eastern boundary of the said Section No. 848; thence by the production of the said eastern boundary to the north-western boundary of the County of Waimairi; and thence along the said county boundary to the place of commencement.

MARSHLAND RIDING.

Bounded by a line commencing at the junction of North Road and Preston’s Road; thence easterly and southerly along the boundary of Styx Riding hereinbefore described to Brigg’s Road; thence westerly along the middle of Brigg’s Road to Hill’s Road; thence along the middle of Hill’s Road to Green’s Road; thence along the middle of Green’s Road to the boundary of the City of Christchurch; thence along that boundary to the southernmost corner of Rural Section No. 1048; thence generally northerly along the western boundary of that section to Winter’s Road; thence along the middle of Winter’s Road to North Road; and thence along the middle of the last-mentioned road to the place of commencement.

AVON RIDING.

Bounded by a line commencing at the junction of Hill’s Road and Brigg’s Road; thence easterly along the southern boundaries of Marshland and Styx Ridings hereinbefore described to the River Avon; thence southerly and westerly along the left bank of the River Avon to the boundary of the City of Christchurch; thence again westerly and northerly along the boundary of the City of Christchurch to Marshland Riding aforesaid; and thence along the boundary of that riding to the place of commencement.

PAPANUI RIDING.

Bounded by a line commencing at the junction of Northcote Road and North Road; thence generally southerly along the boundary of Marshland Riding hereinbefore described to the City of Christchurch; thence along the boundary of the City of Christchurch to the north-western corner of that city; thence westerly along the middle of Wairarapa Road to a point opposite the southernmost corner of Rural Section No. 1601; thence north-easterly along a right line to the southernmost corner of Rural Section No. 323; thence north-westerly along the south-western boundary of Rural Section No. 323 for a distance of 450 links; thence north-easterly along a right line running at right angles with Harewood Road to the middle of that road; thence north-westerly along the middle of Harewood Road to a point opposite the westernmost corner of Rural Section No. 203; thence north-easterly to and along the north-western boundary of Rural Section No. 203, across Langdon’s Road, along the north-western boundary of Rural Section No. 5, across Sawyer’s Arms Road, along the north-western boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 3 and 25 to the railway-line; thence along the railway-line to the middle of Northcote Road; and thence easterly along the middle of that road to the place of commencement.
