No. 27340.—22nd February, 1910.—JAMES THOMAS HUNTER, of 157 Featherston Street, Wellington, New Zealand, Registered Patent Agent (nominee of Sidney John Ross and Harry Schofield, both of 118 Leadenhall Street, London, E.C., England, Engineers. Improvements in or relating to steam-generators.
Claims.—(1.) A steam-boiler provided with partition (such as b) forming a vertical chamber (such as a) open at the top, and with or without side plates (such as c), to produce an active bodily circulation of the water, substantially as described. (2.) In a boiler, the combination with an open-topped chamber or casing (a), such as referred to in the previous claim, of a bent-over plate (made in sections if desired) to give a definite direction to the circulating water, substantially as described. (3.) A locomotive, marine, or stationary boiler provided with a circulating chamber or casing arranged and acting, substantially as described, with reference to Figs. 1 and 2 or Figs. 3 to 5 of the drawings.

Extract from Specification.—This invention relates to internal-combustion engines, and provides within the cylinder a sleeve to which a reciprocating and semi-rotating motion is imparted, whereby a series of ports in the sleeve are brought into correspondence with ports in the cylinder, thereby providing for admission of combustible vapour to the sleeve and for the subsequent exhaust of the products of combustion.

Extract from Specification.—The present invention refers to a jerking reversing-device, which is simple and reliable, and mainly characterized thereby that an elastic member is inserted direct between the slide and a rod or the like actuated from the working-member, the movableness of the slide in the direction of the spring-action being either scotched or the slide being quite stopped during the travelling of the rod.

Automatic firearms.
Claim.—In an automatic gun, the combination of a sliding barrel, main and loading springs surrounding the same, a magazine, a breech mechanism, and means comprising a reciprocating and rotating sleeve provided with an interrupted connection with said barrel, and cams, lugs, and a cam-latch for automatically causing said barrel and sleeve to unlock and to interlock, substantially as described.

Claims.—(1.) A propeller, tractor, or the like, having rigid blades with the face surface plane-convex, the plane part of said blade being parallel with the axis of the propeller as described. (2.) A propeller, tractor, or the like, having rigid blades with the face surface plane-convex, the plane part of said blades being parallel with the axis of the propeller, but the plane part of blades and convex part of blades mounted on separate bosses for reversing motion.

Claims.—(1.) An improvement in the internal construction of inferential turbine water-meters, consisting of forming an upwardly projecting annular bead on the lower portion of the turbine-drum, the said bead being designed to encircle the flared end or flange of the spindle, and to be depressed thereon, for the purpose set forth, and substantially as described and illustrated. (2.) In an improvement in the internal construction of inferential turbine water-meters, the lower portion of a turbine-drum provided with an upwardly projecting annular bead, in combination with a spindle having its flared end or flange designed to receive same when depressed thereon.

No. 27410.—10th March, 1910.—ROBERT KENNEDY, of 346 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, Scotland, Dairyman, and WILLIAM HENRY LAWRENCE, of 35 Melville Street, Pollokshields, Glasgow, Scotland, Engineer. Improvements in milking-machines.
Extract from Specification.—(1.) A pneumatically operated device or valve for controlling the fluid-pressure which actuates the motor mechanism of the pulsator, which valve is arranged in combination with, preferably, two pulsator pistons, plungers, or valves, each of which may be arranged to serve one or more of the teat-cups. If desired, there may be a single piston plunger or valve, or more than two thereof. (2.) Means for shutting off the exhaust connection from the milk-receiver, and simultaneously therewith admitting air thereto, preferably through a filtering-device, in order to equalise the pressure therein with that of the atmosphere so that the pulsating-apparatus can be easily removed from the milk-receiver. (3.) Means for detecting the presence of milk which may accidentally gain access to the air-pipes or passages connected with the teat-cups. (4.) Means for giving easy access to the milk-passages of the apparatus for the purpose of cleaning the same.

No. 27416.—11th March, 1910.—EDGAR HALE, of Kaikuri, near Martinborough, New Zealand, Farm Hand. An improved appliance for searing lambs.
Extract from Specification.—The means devised consist of a pair of jaws, one of which is fixed, while the other is provided with means whereby it may be moved towards or away from the fixed jaw. This movable jaw is provided with a pointed block thereon that may be placed on it and removed at will. This block is heated, placed in position on the jaw and the tail to be seared is then put between the two jaws, and the jaws closed upon it.
