The nearest access is by\nlaunch or steamer, &c., from Thames, which is distant about\nseven miles. Through-access roads from Pokeno and Waerega Railway-stations pass directly through the town to\nPapiroa Wharf, and then continue from the Kopuarahi Wharf\nto Turua and Kerepeehi, these roads being now under construction.\nThe town lands are partly drained alluvial clay-deposit,\nand covered with native grass, manuka, and some mangrove.\nSome of the sections have small, dried-up watercourses\nthrough them, which can, however, be readily filled in.\nThe suburban lands are also partly drained alluvial clay-deposit, and the vegetation consists of light and heavy manuka\nin places, raupo, cabbage-trees, native grasses, &c. There\nare a few dried-up watercourses passing through some of the\nsections, which can, however, be readily filled in.\nThe rural lands are similar in character to the suburban\nsections.\nThe roads will be duly formed and stopbank and other\nprotective works maintained for a period of two years by the\nDepartment.\nERIC C.
