Thursdays at 1 p.m., and Saturdays at 9.30 p.m., except in the case of tobacconists, hairdressers, confectioners, and chemists, whose hours of closing shall be Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 8 p.m.; Thursdays, 1 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 p.m. Refreshment-room keepers and fruiterers shall be Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 10.30 p.m. From the 18th to the 31st December in each year, also on the day immediately preceding public holidays, and during the carnival week in each January, the later hours of closing shall apply; public holidays, those laid down under “The Factories Act, 1908”: And whereas the Wairoa Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all shops within the borough of Wairoa:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that, from and after the 21st day of March, 1910, all shops in the Borough of Wairoa shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Forbidding Money-order and Postal Correspondence for T. D. Howe, Sydney.


THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the person whose name and address are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in advertising the treatment of diseases of the sexual organs, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of “The Post and Telegraph Act, 1908,” that no money-order in favour of the said person shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said person (either by his own or any fictitious or assumed name), or to such address without a name, shall be either registered, forwarded, or delivered by the Post Office of New Zealand.

Notice appointing First Meeting of Contributors of Separate Institutions.


IN pursuance and exercise of the power conferred on me by section 92 of “The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1909,” I, David Buddo, acting for the Minister in charge of the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint that the first meeting of the contributors to each separate institution shall be held on Tuesday, the 5th day of April, 1910, at the place and time set opposite the name of that institution in the Schedule hereto.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced in New Zealand.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the production of mineral oil under the following conditions:—

  1. A bonus of 3d. per gallon (£6,250) will be paid on the first 500,000 gallons of mineral oil produced in the Dominion of New Zealand. The mineral oil in the refined state to have a specific gravity of 0·814 to 0·830, and a flash point of not less than 83° Fahr. by the Abel closed test.

  2. Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must be given in writing to the Minister of Mines not later than 31st March, 1912.

  3. The claim must be made before 31st March, 1913.

  4. The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the recipient of the bonus.

  5. All conditions as to quantity, quality, priority, and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed for the purpose by the Government.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.


Mines Department,
Wellington, 14th February, 1910.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of four pence (4d. per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say :—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1911, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1912.

  2. No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.

  3. In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.
